The Statue of Liberty was originally designed to be a Muslim woman, the Smithsonian Institution's magazine says.
An article on the government-administered museum’s blog, Smart News, claims one of the designers of Lady Liberty drew inspiration from monuments in Egypt and originally intended to construct a veiled female peasant on the Suez Canal.
The article cites historian Barry Moreno, author of multiple books about the statue, whose Islamic origins were also reported last week by
The Daily Beast.
“Taking the form of a veiled peasant woman, the statue was to stand 86 feet high, and its pedestal was to rise to a height of 48 feet,” Moreno writes in “The Statue of Liberty.”
The design of the project was eventually altered to the Roman colossus who shines the light of liberty from New York harbor today.

Well . . . it was originally meant for Egypt. But no statue in that part of the world is a moslem statue (they don’t build statues).

Bravo. But I also have it on good authority that the statue is actually Eleanor Rooselvelt from a previous incarnation when she was a Tibetan Monk of the third order of saffron robe. I got this from my third cousin twice removed from Sing Sing so there!

It would take me a long time to unpack and refute all the nonsense here, so I'll stick to a couple of brief points:
Bartholdi was lobbying for a commission to build a colossus that would stand at the entrance of the Suez Canal, which was nearing completion, and was the object of great French national pride. His models were ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian statuary. He made several mock-ups of a woman in an Egyptian headdress - she was not veiled and was not intended to represent a Muslim or Islam for the very simple reason that Sunni Islam FORBIDS REPRESENTATIONAL FIGURES.
The stupidity on display is quite remarkable, especially coming from the Smithsonian - the fact that all these lefty lib MSM outlets are running with it over Thanksgiving makes it even more obnoxious.

"inspiration from monuments in Egypt"
Any monunumet in Egypt depicting a woman is going to be pre-Islam.
How stupid can the Smithsonian get?
