Bromance on the Rocks: Surging Ted Cruz Begins to Poke Donald Trump

Ted Cruz's moment has arrived.

Less than 10 weeks before Iowa voters their cast the first votes of the presidential campaign season in Feb. 1 caucuses, a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Texas senator statistically tied with Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump for the lead in the state. Perhaps not so coincidentally, Cruz is tentatively beginning to take on the brash New York billionaire after months of cozying up.

Twice in recent days, the Texan has seized opportunities to distance himself from Trump's policies and rhetoric. First, Cruz disagreed with Trump after the New Yorker expressed openness to setting up a registry of Muslim Americans in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks. "I'm a big fan of Donald Trump's but I'm not a fan of government registries of American citizens," Cruz told reporters in Iowa, according to Politico. "The First Amendment protects religious liberty, I've spent the past several decades defending religious liberty."

Then over the weekend, he politely chided inflammatory rhetoric from fellow Republicans on immigration, when asked about Trump during an interview with the Associated Press. "Tone matters," Cruz said. "Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes." Cruz's campaign said to expect more distinctions to come.

It was written in clear and concise declarative sentences, as most news articles, at the 5th grade level.

Senator Cruz's reason for voting for it was that it would require President Obama to bring his agreement before congress rather than simply ignoring congress and doing it all at the UN which he was threatening to do.

So Cruz's thinking was to make obumbers illegal Iran deal valid by giving it Congressional approval as the default, requiring 2/3 vote to stop it rather then the constitutionally required 2/3 to pass? That makes sense to you?

I did not give you an honest response.

The Donald will play to the end. He may win.

He is damn near 70 years old and has more energy than anyone.

The American people are tired of DC.

It takes 38 states to remove DC. That is my stand.

And a song........

I don’t love Cruz...but I admire him. Something in me remains cautious ...

I love Trump - he is throwing everything he’s got at this and he’s right, it takes a ton of courage for someone to go up against the evil empire of the Uniparty.

Trump already, months ago, questioned Cruz’ Canadian birth and, as I recall, Cruz made little. or limited, response.

You can pretty much write the script for when that's going to come up again in Trump's speech...

"So we have a guy, born in Canada...he thinks he can be President. Can you believe this? He's from Canada. Says he's a 'constitutional scholar' but he's from Canada and wants to be President. I don't think so. I don't think so."

"He thinks he's tough, oh, so tough. President of the debate league. He's been in Washington for years but still has no friends...kind of sad if you think about it. Not very popular but wants to be elected President. Some say he's...I shouldn't say this...but, well, he's kind of a nerd! I didn't say it! Running for President but not popular. It's not going to work, folks. It doesn't work that way."

"He's an outsider, supposedly, an 'outsider.' Worked in government for his whole life and he's an OUTsider. I don't get it. But he's so tough. The captain of the debate team...taking on ISIS...and CHI-na. Never created a job in his life and no one likes him. C'mon, folks. Is this a joke? Do they think we're stupid? They think we're stupid."

Cruz said. “Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes.”

Sounds like he is talking about Rubio

Yes, it’s highly probable Cruz was dinging Rubio and not Trump.

If so, the slimy author of this article is trying to place Ted’s statement in the context of Trump vs. Cruz fantasy.

Huuu well , it would be time to stop abuses of political correctness ( it’s bad for health ) .

ISSlam is NOT a “specific religion” .....among others !
It’s , i would say , a different religion , very different , from the christian religion .
And you , USA , Europe , everyone , has to make a choice .

You can pretty much write the script for when that's going to come up again in Trump's speech...

Cruz has all sorts of ugly problems that can be brought up, and his running as the "true," "pure," "consistent conservative" will not look good when placed under real scrutiny.

His father is a grifter and a Dominionist. His wife is a Goldman Sachs executive who endorsed the CFR's North American Union proposals. He himself has donors ranging from the Club for Growth on down to Goldman Sachs. Finally, Cruz even sat there and voted against amendments that would have made TPA better, but now campaigns on "voting against it" even after he brought it to the floor. Cruz is also, and provably, a liar when discussing his immigration position. His team is calling Marco Rubio a liar because Marco points out that he has supported legalization and expansion of H1-B Visas, stuff he supported even after the Gang of Eight fight was over. All of this absolutely true.

The retard Cruzers are going to reply in one of two ways to this information: "It's all lies!" or "Trump is worse!" But normal people are going to remember that Ted Cruz is running on a "true""consistent" conservative platform.

Cruz is vulnerable. That is why the NRO, Red State, all these establishment scumbags are willing to promote him as the next not-Trump.

Cruz's problems nullify his superiority over Rubio and Bush, because his positions are provably ungenuine.

Being for or against legal immigration is not a “conservative” plank. There’s no consistent definition on what the conservative position is on that issue. You can be conservative and be for legal immigration.

Trump has also championed legal immigration, letting back in any “good” illegals deported, and trying to help more U.S.-educated foreigners immigrate here permanently.

Why would they promote Cruz over Trump if they really want one of the RINO candidates? Why not just promote the guy they want? It’s wasted effort to push Cruz to defeat Trump and then have to push Rubio to defeat Cruz. Why not skip the middleman and have Rubio defeat Trump?
