Ted Cruz's moment has arrived.
Less than 10 weeks before Iowa voters their cast the first votes of the presidential campaign season in Feb. 1 caucuses, a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Texas senator statistically tied with Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump for the lead in the state. Perhaps not so coincidentally, Cruz is tentatively beginning to take on the brash New York billionaire after months of cozying up.
Twice in recent days, the Texan has seized opportunities to distance himself from Trump's policies and rhetoric. First, Cruz disagreed with Trump after the New Yorker expressed openness to setting up a registry of Muslim Americans in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks. "I'm a big fan of Donald Trump's but I'm not a fan of government registries of American citizens," Cruz told reporters in Iowa, according to Politico. "The First Amendment protects religious liberty, I've spent the past several decades defending religious liberty."
Then over the weekend, he politely chided inflammatory rhetoric from fellow Republicans on immigration, when asked about Trump during an interview with the Associated Press. "Tone matters," Cruz said. "Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes." Cruz's campaign said to expect more distinctions to come.

Cruz is owned by a hedge fund banker (Mercer). He’ll implode faster than Carson.
Yahoo is looking to foment a fight. Cruz is smarter than that. There is plenty of time for policy differences to be highlighted.
Don’t do it, Teddy... Not a good idea.
Welcome to FR, newcomer.
Cruz won’t implode because his supporters like who he is and he is a known quantity unlike Carson.
This is as manufactured as the attacks on Trump. If I am forced to choose sides, I pick Cruz.
Who knows how much truth there is in this report... I hope not much.
Trump will really put the hurt on Cruz if Cruz is really going after him. IMO this is media trying to start something.
Ughh. What are you doing, Ted?
as said today: Cruz is the guy swimming the moat with a knife in his teeth. He knows how to fight. Cracked me up.
Wonder if they have made a cartoon if it yet?
And he won’t be the whinny baby Trump is, belittling personally, just whine, whine whine.
Cruz will - just the facts jack.
Once a century you get a stable Warbux type like Trump. Everyone else is beholden to someone else. It depends on how wide or narrow the focus of the moneyed supporter is. I do not know who the fellow you mentioned in support of Cruz is, or what he would want. Time will tell.
Really Ted?
And outright LYING about whom Trump wants on a registry ( the influx of supposed "Syrians" ! ) who are NOT "American citizens", is problematic for Ted !
Yahoo is hardly the source for analyzing the Republican viewpoint.
Cruz has never, ever championed the wholesale deportation of illegals. He has expressed his own ideas on the subject many times.
He does not want Syrian refugees, who clearly cannot be vetted, to be admitted to the US.
As for not wanting registries of Muslims, this seems reasonable. There are already databases for suspected extremist Muslims (if Obama has not gutted it).
We are all in government databases. To believe there should not be databases for a specific religion seems reasonable. I would be upset to learn there was a database for Christians.
The left wants to manufacture problems. Policy differences between Trump and Cruz will come to light, as they should, but I do not believe they will do it in a vicious way.
Trump already, months ago, questioned Cruz’ Canadian birth and, as I recall, Cruz made little. or limited, response.
Well, if Ted’s little dig against Trump on immigration is any clue, it’s apparent his donor is an anti-American Chamber of Commerce guy/gal.
Hey Sahil! What has YOUR candidate been up to lately? Just laughing about how stupid the DemocRAT voters are?
I doubt that, after reading what Ted just supposedly said.
If Trump starts hitting Cruz on his corker bill and TPA votes, and then ties them to CoC and CFG donations, Cruz is toast nationally. Cruz better mind his P’s and Q’s here.
{”Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes.””}
My guess would be he is talking about Rubio who is viciously attacking him with paid ads.
If Cruz really said what is purported he has said, in this article...that's REAL whiny tripe and "belittling" too.
