Cruz’s team seems to actually, literally be shifting to a “nicer, gentler,” compassionate conservatism with recent statements (because that worked so well for Jeb Bush), not to mention he is outright deceptive on immigration and TPP.

I question the notion that Cruz’s conservatism is NOT compassionate.
Just last year, when there were a flood of children crossing our borders from the Latin American countries, Cruz actually joined Glenn Beck for ‘Soccer Balls and Teddy Bears’ Event.

He said it was a humanitarian mission but rejected the notion that he was going to grant them permanent residency.
You can be personally compassionate yet uphold the rule of law.

Not really, Rush has been all Trump today. He isn’t supporting any person’s candidate. They just want to think he does.
Understandable, but an errant thought.
Cruz has huge general election issues... I know he excites the chior, but he alienates a lot of others, and will motivate folks who are dejected at the prospects of Hillary to crawl over glass to vote against him.
Cruz’s biggest issue is to overcome is convincing folks he can win a general election, and I just don’t see it happening.... that and Trump has to collapse before he’s going to go anywhere, which also seems less and less likely daily.
Cruz is right in sync with Jeff Session, has said he changed his mind. What is the big deal?
Cruz is a totally consistent conservative and isn’t deceptive at all. There’s a reason Hillary and Trump are polled as the least trustworthy candidates in the race.

The conservative message works every time it is articulated in an appropriate way. Ted Cruz can convey this message. The time is right and so is the messenger.
