Mike Allen is reporting a new CBS poll has Cruz surging to the top of the race in Iowa as Ben Carson collapses a full 8 points!! Here are the numbers: CBS News Battleground Tracker: Carson down 8 points from last month in Iowa ⦠Iowa caucus-goers (margin of error, 6.2): Trump 30%, Cruz 21%, Carson 19%, Rubio 11%, Bush 5%, Fiorina 4% ⦠N.H. GOP primary voters (margin of error, 6.3): Trump 32%, Rubio 13%, Carson/Cruz 10%, Kasich 8%, Bush/Fiorina/Paul 6%, Christie 5%.
Ben Carson seems to be experiencing a yuge drop in support, as a new Fox News poll has him dropping as well. You can read that here.
In that poll, Cruz also made some gains while still being tied with Rubio at third place â are we seeing the beginning of a surge for the Crazybird Cuban Canuck?!?! Stay tuned!!!

I like Allen West too Gail, although I would encourage you (and other FReepers) to look into the qualifications of former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Peter Pace (USMC-retired), his military and
moral credentials are unassailable and his experience in either the VP slot (or SecDef) would be an immense asset to either a President Cruz OR a President Trump.
He had been encouraged to run for the Senate from Virginia but chose not to do so, however I would like to think he could be persuaded to serve his Nation once more in times like these.

Cruz will win Iowa, then the rest of his strategy will fall into place...he’s put in the required work in all the states to organize a grassroots Reagan style win.

I've had many Iowans tell me they feel that since Iowa has such an exalted position in the primary season, many make a sport of lying to pollsters and voting contrarian to try to influence outcomes.
I wouldn't doubt that one bit, which is all the more reason that Iowa should politically have their damn corn rammed up their rumps and this 'first in the Nation' crap brought to a screeching halt. The vaunted Iowa and New Hampshire contests should be ROTATED with other equally worthy States every 4 years, what has Iowa (or New Hampshire for that matter) done to deserve such preferential treatment? They're no better than any other State, screw 'em!

All valid points, but this year may see such a groundswell that even Iowa is caught up in getting it right.

Iowa's job is not to pick the winner. Iowa's job is to winnow out the field, and let the legit shots move on. And while Iowans do the voting, the nation helps them. It's the nationwide donors and all that fund the campaigns. And if a candidate has the oomph to keep going, enough Iowans will figure that out and vote accordingly.
America, as a whole, has already "voted" on Jindal and Walker. The nominee for each party is going to get a top 3 finish in Iowa. Pretty easy for the Ds. In the Rs, it is going to be Trump, Cruz, Rubio, or Carson. One of those people are going to be the R nominee. And that nominee is going to have a top 3 finish in Iowa (though they may not win it)

Looks like Trumps attack on Carson worked though
***************
Yes— but I said at the time— how does Trump’s attacks on Carson help Trump, especially in Iowa?
I mean, objectively, Carson had a lock on the Evangelical vote- thus keeping Cruz in 3rd place. Donald benefited by the Carson/Cruz split. By attacking Carson, he elevated Cruz.
That’s one of the reasons I feel Trump isn’t making a real play in Iowa.

Huh? Methinks you misread the comment.
He's just not a great debater is a criticism.
However, He's not just a great debater is a compliment.
Depends on the order of the words just & not!

Why is Jindal in that lineup? He struck his colors and left days ago.

For Cruz, better to win than not. The media will not be able to ignore him after that.

You mean Trump’s attack on that nice Dr. Carson wasn’t the end of him as many here and in the news media thought? Well, well, well, pointing out that Iowans are not stupid seems to have worked for Trump.

You’re serious????
To: VinL
If I am not mistaken Trump was tied or losing to Carson the last time around, so I would say it helped a lot by clarifying to people what Carson is all about.
