Ted Cruz won’t rule out legalization for illegal immigrants

"If we put in place a strong E-Verify system and deport criminal illegal aliens, the number of people here illegally will drop significantly, particularly if there's not a continual flow of people coming in illegally," Cruz said.

"At that point, once we've demonstrated that we can solve the problem, then we can have a conversation about what to do about whatever people remain illegally," Cruz added. When asked if that conversation included the potential for a pathway to legal status, he repeated, "We can have that conversation with the American people once we secure the border."

A lot of us see Cruz’s immigration plan as solid and common sense.

But you can't. Cruz just told you you're going to have to vote for him to find out what he supports (like Nancy Pelosi), and that you're just going to have to believe his LIES when he claims he never supported legalization in the past!

Where’s the common sense in deporting millions of people (which will never be funded by Congress anyway) with the intention of expediting their way back into the country?

First of all, I'm not actually sure that Trump-- in the comment you reference-- was not referring to immigration in general, seeing as how in other statements he declared it unfair for illegal aliens to get automatic legalization when other people have been waiting in line for years.

But as for how it's common sense? For the same reason why you don't bring Syrian Refugees into this country and then hope to vet them while they're already here.

Ted Cruz was calling for a border wall in 2011 when Trump still supported amnesty. Cruz has an excellent immigration plan that does not include expedited re entry after deportation. If you read the law enforcement section of his plan it is evident he does plan to implement deportation.

Trump, however, is viewing this on a scope closer to a war than the nice neat “law enforcement” of Cruz. Can Cruz stoke up the fire in his belly to that point? Trump, being told that all these cases have to be due-processed, would either do an Andrew Jackson, or else say fine, let’s open up 1000 courts then.

Meanwhile Ted Cruz is unalterably committed to following the law in every respect.

"And I'd like to make a final point to those advocacy groups that are very engaged in this issue and rightly concerned about addressing our immigration system, and in particular about addressing the situation for the 11 million who are currently in the shadows. If this amendment is adopted to the current bill the effect would be that those 11 million under this current bill would still be eligible for RPI status.** They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed under the terms of the bill they would be eligible for LPR status as well, so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principle objective -- to provide a legal status for those who are here illlegally to be out of the shadows. This amendment would allow that to happen...

And a second point to those advocacy groups that are so passionately engaged. In my view if this committee rejects this amendment, and I think everyone here views it as quite likely this committee will choose to reject this amendment, in my view that decision will make it much, much more likely that this entire bill will fail in the House of Representantives. I don't want immigration reform to fail. I want immigration reform to pass, and so I would urge people of good faith on both sides of the aisle, if the objective is to pass common sense immigration reform that secures the borders, that improves legal immigration, and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows, then we should look for areas of bipartisan agreement and compromise to come together and this amendment -- I believe if this amendment were to pass the chances of this bill passing into law would increase dramatically, and so I would urge the committee to give it full consideration and to adopt the amendment.

Trump is the reentry guy and Cruz will consider legalization without reentry. I see no difference there and have no idea what they would end up doing. But I do know that one of them has used the state to try and take a woman’s property for personal gain and his name is not Cruz.

But they are all criminal in that they are all illegal.

So, Cruz is hedging now.

==

WHO REPRESENTS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

It seems like every politician is indebted to representing some minority segment(s) of the population. Those minority segments are draining and putting the nation further in debt with welfare and benefits and subsidies.

According to the full article, it sounds as if Cruz is just going to let voluntary leaving take care of the 11 million illegals. [IIRC, that is the same idea Romney finally landed on after all of his flip-flopping.]

In the full article, too, Cruz sounds like he has a mouth full of the same gobbledygook the amnesty pushers have been spreading for a decade.

The article states that "... the term 'amnesty' means different things to different people." It shouldn't. That is the problem. Politicians keep trying to redefine it to fit their plan or program.

If Cruz is opposed to amnesty today, he should be opposed to it as president, even though 11 million (or more) are illegals.

The article states that Cruz is trying to carve out a space between Trump's forcible deportation and Rubio's pathway to citizenship.

Sorry, but there is no inbetween there. Give them legal status and you will open the door to citizenship in the first court case.

Ted Cruz Won't Rule Out Legalization for 11 Million in U.S. Illegally. Then, that is AMNESTY.

Exactly. If we consider us a nation of laws, then we should enforce our laws. Illegal is illegal. The answer is simple: deport them.,/I>

Which remains an option, after self-deportation has taken care of the bulk of the problem.

Cruz is merely saying "First things first. Second things second."

There will be plenty of illegals left after Trump's initial deportation, as well, and the very same decision will have to be faced.

I want them all gone, too -- but that may not be possible.

“Possesion is 9/10 of the law?” If they are OFF of US turf, yes you have more say.

Trump uses of ED have proven to be more humane than the average, incidentally. One can criticize the philosophy of Kelo, but if the People do not want it, Trump could not do a jolly thing to derail its being chucked out by constitutional amendment (as to what counts as a public use).

You seem to have a comprehension problem where Cruz’s immigration plan is concerned. Trump actually supports legalization, but he just includes a very costly couple of steps by deporting them and then expediting them back in.

Once again, though, this is trying to fault someone for something he did not say. it is the same thing the leftists have done to Trump. Do not be like the leftist media.

Tell them to get on home persuasively enough, and most will follow.

I think the best path is to not try to jump to conclusions.

The Cruz guys were playing gotcha this morning over some answer by Trump over college tuition that they blew up into their usual “Trump is a liberal” schtick, so they ought not be indignant when the Trump guys take a swipe over this.

But we all know neither are looking to screw us over, so people really need to stop looking for the smallest things to go ballistic over or else FR will be nothing but dueling gotcha posts.

Some folks can’t see deportation and expedited reentry as an expensive form of legalization.

“Tend to agree. Trump is better than Cruz on the issue. Trump is also more mercurial, however. I could see him doing an about face because that’s what popped into his head that day.”

Agree.

“Would like to see the issue expanded beyond illegals. Almost all third world immigration is bad: legal, illegal or “refugee”. We are importing failed cultures who bring garbage like gang banging and Islam as luggage.”

Agree.
