Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) refused to attack his 2016 opponent Donald Trump on Friday, despite a reporterâs persistent attempts to spark a war of words.
âIâm a big fan of Donald Trumpâs, but Iâm not a fan of government registries of Americans citizens,â he said when asked about Trumpâs remarks on the need for a Muslim-tracking database. âThe First Amendment protects religious liberty, and Iâve spent the past several decades defending the religious liberty of every American.â
When a reporter then pressed him on whether he was concerned about Trumpâs âmessagingâ as the frontrunner, Cruz shut down the line of questioning.
âListen, I like Donald Trump. I recognize the media would love to get me and other candidates to attack Donald Trump,â Cruz added. âThere may be other candidates who want to do that â I ainât going to do it. So, Iâll tell you my policy views, but I have no interest in attacking Donald Trump or, for that matter, attacking Ben Carson. Both are good men. And Iâm not interested in throwing rocks at either one of them.â

What did Trump supposedly say that was so bad? Trump never said what the MSM said he did. They are plain, flat out lying.
Numerous media reports that Cruz condemned Trump. Yes, I know that this article proves that such is a lie - Cruz apparently did not fall for the bail, but it is out there that Cruz condemned Trump for words that Trump NEVER said. See how the game is played?
Media is and always has been the enemy for at least 50 years!
He’s running for President. He’s not running for VP.
Trump would make a fine Press Secretary within the Cruz administration.
The media are like degenerate, very late Roman Empire Romans trying to get gladiators and Christians to fight each other for their amusement.
Cruz remains consistent in his policy of not trashing other candidates. Integrity matters.
Trump and Cruz are playing nice with each other. Looks like weâll have either a Trump/Cruz or Cruz/Trump ticket.
Cruz was being coy...he had to know that it’s a media smear & Trump did not call for a Muslim database...it’s all over the news.
Cruz won’t be VP, because he’ll be the nominee.
This would be sweet justice.
This is comedy, right?
Brilliantly done Senator Cruz.
Yes, the contention that Cruz is running for VP is comedy. He’s running for President.
My comment about Trump making a good Press Secretary is just a response to all those Trump fanbois who keep dismissing Cruz, saying he would make a fine AG or VP or member of the Supreme Court.
I seriously doubt either of those will come to fruition.
I think Cruz would make an excellent VP or AG. I don’t like him for SC - it’s too confining. If he doesn’t get the nomination, then it would serve him well to get the VP spot - he can serve for 4-8 years and then run again - he would be well seasoned by that time. Plus, he can go raspberry on McConnell and the RINO’S in the Senate.
It’s an apt comparison.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) refused to attack his 2016 opponent Donald Trump on Friday, despite a reporter's persistent attempts to spark a war of words.(Comment from me, a FR monthly contributor:"I'm a big fan of Donald Trump's, but I'm not a fan of government registries of Americans citizens," he said when asked about Trump's remarks on the need for a Muslim-tracking database. "The First Amendment protects religious liberty, and I've spent the past several decades defending the religious liberty of every American."
When a reporter then pressed him on whether he was concerned about Trump's "messaging" as the frontrunner, Cruz shut down the line of questioning.
"Listen, I like Donald Trump. I recognize the media would love to get me and other candidates to attack Donald Trump," Cruz added. "There may be other candidates who want to do that.â I ain't going to do it. So, I'll tell you my policy views, but I have no interest in attacking Donald Trump or, for that matter, attacking Ben Carson. Both are good men. And I'm not interested in throwing rocks at either one of them."

So then Rush did to Cruz what the media did to Trump.
Anyway, both Cruz and Trump could have communicated better.
“If he doesnât get the nomination, then it would serve him well to get the VP spot.”
That much we can agree on.
That said, Cruz is running for President. Not VP. And he’s more “seasoned” than Trump, FWIW.
Ted Cruz knows how broken-hearted Trumpsters will be when Trump flames out.
He’s a smart cookie.
