Muslim terrorists opened fire on an upscale hotel on Friday in the city of Bamako, the capital of the western African state of Mali.
The jihadists used automatic weapons according to security sources, and apparently have taken people hostage in the Radisson Blu Hotel. Some reports indicate that at least three people have died in the attack.
The luxury hotel, which has 190 rooms, is a popular site for Western officials according to French-language media.
According to the French RFI radio, the attack was launched by three assailants who entered the hotel with diplomatic cars.
Security forces have set up a cordon around the building, and a security source told AFP that "it's all happening on the seventh floor, jihadists are firing in the corridor."

AMAKO, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Gunmen shouting Islamic slogans attacked a luxury hotel full of foreigners in Mali’s capital Bamako early on Friday morning, taking 170 people hostage, a senior security source and the hotel’s operator said.
The raid on the Radisson Blu hotel, which lies just west of the city centre near government ministries and diplomatic offices in the former French colony, comes a week after Islamic State (IS) militants killed 129 people in Paris.
The identity of the Bamako gunmen, or the group to which they belong, is not known.
Northern Mali was occupied by Islamist fighters, some with links to al Qaeda, for most of 2012. Although they were driven out by a French-led military operation, sporadic violence has continued.
The security source said as many as 10 gunmen had stormed the building, firing shots and shouting “Allahu Akbar”, or “God is great” in Arabic.
“Shelter in place.” Good God, has there ever been uttered a more fatalistic, give-up-the-ship phrase in the English language? What happened to Send in the Marines or Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
“Shelter in place.” The perfect phrase for Obama and the armed forces he continues to emasculate.
Security forces have reportedly stormed the hotel. 15 additional hostages released. Per AFP.
I believe they want people to stay home or where they are and not complicate an ongoing hostage situation.
...................Security sources told AFP the gunmen were “jihadists” who had entered the hotel compound in a car that had diplomatic plates.
“It’s all happening on the seventh floor, jihadists are firing in the corridor,” one security source said.
Malian soldiers, police and special forces were on the scene as a security perimeter was set up, along with members of the UN’s MINUSMA peacekeeping force in Mali and the French troops fighting jihadists in west Africa under Operation Barkhane.
French troops are believed to have been stationed at the hotel.
CNN: Special Forces now involved....
We've discussed there being situations in which even the toughest and best-trained civilians would just be in the way. However, I agree with those who opine that "Shelter in place" is an intentionally emasculating phrase.
C’mon, it has nothing to do with Islam.
That can’t be the work of the saintly ROP.
Nothing to see here and its time to move on.
