(Los Angeles) Airport Commission Approves a Private LAX Lounge for the Rich and Famous

Different Kind of Blue

Airport commission approves a private LAX lounge for the rich and famous

A proposal to build a posh private lounge at Los Angeles International Airport for Southern California’s glitterati was approved Thursday in a move that officials hope will reduce disturbances by paparazzi, looky-loos and autograph-seekers in the busy central terminal area.

The Board of Airport Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the exclusive facility, which would cater to wealthy Hollywood celebrities, sports figures, diplomats and anyone else seeking privacy while waiting for their flights or after arriving at LAX.

Airport officials say the lounge will be located in a converted cargo facility at 6851 West Imperial Highway, next to the airport's southernmost runway. The proposed project includes a 43,750-square-foot building and a 13,840-square-foot parking lot.

For fees as high as $1,800 per trip, travelers would be able to drive into a secure parking and drop-off area, avoiding the main terminals, which can be crowded with people and jammed with traffic.

Once inside, they could relax in the lounge's private suites until their boarding times, when shuttles would take them to their passenger gates in the central terminal area.

Similar facilities exist at international airports in Amsterdam; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; London; Moscow; Paris; Frankfurt, Germany; Madrid and other major cities.

Airport officials say the LAX lounge will be built and operated by Gavin de Becker and Associates, an L.A.-based security firm with an elite clientele. The firm plans to open the lounge in six to eight months, first in a temporary facility while the permanent site is prepared.

Hmmm ... maybe segregated facilities for Hollywood's rich and famous is for the best. After all, we can't have human walking cesspools like Charlie Sheen and Courtney Love mingling with the public and creating a contagious outbreak!

Amen! If I had to travel to LA, I sure wouldn’t want to run into anything from Hollywood.

Hey, why just glitterati? Might be useful for some others, too...

Just think, the “Patriot Act”, we could all travel just like the rich and famous do now.

The Lear jet leftists expect to form the core of the global Green Inner Party. There they will continue to enjoy the finest foods and most advanced gadgets the world has to offer — while deciding your fate for you.

If you work very hard and show them your unwavering loyalty you may be permitted to join the global Green Outer Party. You will be allowed occasional servings of meat - and air conditioning on a rationed basis.

The rest of us will eat beans and swelter — for the good of the planet.

There's a rise near there with a dog park and some benches. People go there to watch planes takeoff and land.

It will soon be overrun with paparazzi trying to catch glimpses of the rich and clueless.

Is it going to have privacy booths for sex and drugs?

I can see all kinds of fun arising from this.

Is the LAPD going to be in charge of security?

With things like Charlie Sheen going through it, they will probably have to hose the place out each night.

But but but, how am I ever going to learn the correct talking points on all matters of global importance from political to science if I am denied access to people who read things other people write in front of cameras, or better yet have teams of engineers that can take the raw sound of their voice and tweak the frequencies and amplitudes of them so they don’t sound like 1000 cats simultaneously vomiting?

I’ve got a better idea. Just give those a-holes their own stupid airport. I sure as hell don’t want to see them.

I know one of the airport commissioners. Could be worth asking for a peek at the facilities once they’re properly dressed out.

When the space shuttle was at LAX, my sister got the opportunity to go inside and check it out. I was quite jealous.

A repulsive waste of money BUT this is the way to compete with private jets. We all know these save_the_freakin_planet Hollywood celebrities love their private jets with half the reason being to avoid contact with the peasantry. So this new “Private LAX Lounge for the Rich and Famous” will also keep the rabble at bay. Thus serving to entice the wealthy off their private jets which often they don’t own but charter one trip at a time. Think of it another gated community.

LAX has it’s own Police force, doubt they’d let LAPD in, on their turf . . .

As long as ‘they’ are paying for it I have no problem. In fact. I do feel sympathy for some of the “rich and famous.” After a 12 or 20 hour flight we are all just humans who want to go about our business. I travel a lot. And I frequently fly 1st class. I have sat by “rich and famous” and deplaned the same time they have. I have seen them mobbed by fans and workers at the airport. I do feel sorry for them. By the end of a trans Pacific flight all you want to do is go rest. I haven’t seen paparazzi attack but I can only imagine it is awful.

This exclusive lounge will also keep the paparazzi and celebrity stalkers away. Another big plus for Hollywood types. It will also function as a private club where actor X can run into producer Y and Hollywood lawyer Z and discuss a deal and money making opportunities
