As GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump continues to lead in most polls - in some by rather large margins - what might have once seemed like a longshot (remember back at the beginning of the summer) now increasingly is real possibility. So it's natural to start imagining who Trump might pick as his running mate, should he go all the way to receive the GOP nomination.
Today, Trump came as close as he's come yet to naming who that person might be. And I know some of you are going to be disappointed, while others of you will love it.
(H/T to The Hill via The Right Scoop:)
Donald Trump on Tuesday named Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) when asked about his possible running mate in 2016.

Smart choice if Cruz will go for it. It would ensure his win.
LOL!
Trump did NOT say he WOULD pick Cruz. To say he did is extremely overreaching. Trump said Cruz was someone, as an example, that he might consider. My guess is that this would NEVER happen as (1) Cruz has nothing to offer the ticket, (2) Cruz has positions at serious odds with Trump, and (3) Cruz is a martyr, not a winner.
Thank you for posting AND editing!
Cruz will go for it. And a Trump/Cruz ticket would bring in all the conservatives who back Cruz, most Hispanics, and a huge chunk of disaffected Dem’s and Independents.
I agree.
Myself, my own favorite would be Sarah Palin. But that is just me.
Trump/Cruz, I like it. But I was thinking that the V.P. slot for Cruz would be a waste. I was thinking Cruz for Attorney General. I think people would be fleeing the country like rats.
[(1) Cruz has nothing to offer the ticket, (2) Cruz has positions at serious odds with Trump, and (3) Cruz is a martyr, not a winner.]
Explain yourself.
This did not happen. I heard Trump’s interview on L. Ingraham’s show and he specifically said it was too soon to talk about VP. She was trying to get him to say.
Further, it would be bad form to single out someone who is actually running against him.
AND Cruz would be President of the Senate where a President Trump would need strong help.
He didn’t say he WOULD, he listed Cruz as someone whom he would consider.
And I very much doubt that Cruz would be his final choice, since Cruz adds no voters (I mean, if you are a Cruz guy, are you REALLY going to vote for Hillary or stay home?), Cruz would be wasted at VP when he’s needed on the Supreme Court, and Cruz is poison to blacks and Democrats in general, where Trump is polling around 25% without him.
Reno, this election is about taking our country back. These guys could be from another planet and they still win. Cruz and Trump represent all the pissed off people that are tired of our country being sold out. They win/we win.
Sarah Palin will never again be elected to high office because she has been branded (unfairly) with the “stupid” label by the press and the Liberals (I know, they’re the same).
No one will ever be able to label Crus as anythuing but intelligent and his record as an atty arguing before the USSC (and winning) is matchless. On top of that he is the best communicator of all the Candidates which is befitting a man who was named National Debating champion while at Princeton.
Crus should be Cruz.
They always say they will leave and never do.I say we make them leave.
“Cruz has nothing to offer the ticket”
Cruz has a lot to offer a ticket but he may not have as much to offer the (R) establishment.
“Cruz is a martyr, not a winner.”
Now that’s just plain silly. You’re coloring way outside of the lines.
If you say so.
I have supported Sarah Palin strongly since the word go. I am not sharing your opinion.
I think she would be a huge benefit. The only difference between Sarah Palin, and Donald Trump is that Donald Trump fights back every single time, against every single smear.
Sarah didn’t do that. I agree she should have, but we learn.
I think she would be a big, big asset. I think she would strongly appeal to conservatives, and she would weaken Hillary’s monopoly on the “women’s vote”.
Again however, that is just my opinion.
Eggzackly.
Those are a lot of ifs. Do I think things would fall out that way with Trump/Cruz? There is only a chance that it or something like it would eventuate but for any other combination possible with the figures running I can not see any possibility at all and Trump, even with Cruz on board, might just turn out to be Napoleon unmodified.
Whatever, Napoleon at least gave France a few more years of glory before it truly all went to pieces.
Unfortunately, this is probably all smoke anyway, because the Democrats are in position now to control the Election. Soros will count the votes for a number of states. There will be millions of new citizens voting for whoever the Democrats "run," the DoJ will be enforcing rules not permitting any ID check, eligibility questions or questions about whether a voter has already voted. In California non-citizens will vote with state protection as all with drivers' licenses are registered to vote and have been counselled to go ahead and vote. Same in Chicago with aliens who have kids in school.
