Trump: Why I may have to go to war with Cruz...GOP front-runner puts Texas senator on notice

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump just put rival Ted Cruz on notice: Get too hot and I'll have to take you down.

Describing the senator from Texas as "nice and supportive," Trump told CNBC’s "Squawk Box" on Monday that the two candidates have similar ideas on many of the issues, including border security and the need for a wall to keep out illegal immigrants.

"[But] If he catches on, I guess we'll have to go to war," Trump said of Cruz, who's seen a bit of a bump nationally and in the early contest states of Iowa and New Hampshire since last week's Republican debate.

He sure is conservative alright. And, no conservative has ever been nominated in the Republican Party for fifty years! Since Reagan, and even Reagan was no Cruz as a conservative.

You have to be viable. Able to carry more than your Anglo Christian Right little base, to stand a chance. Cruz supporters will freak out when he has to grow support beyond his little base.

This country is clearly a secular nation. This isn’t our grandpa’s America, outside of the South.

The rapid, mouth-foaming Cruzsters won’t be able to handle it. They’ll probably vote for Bernie then.

Why would supporters of the most conservative candidate switch their vote to the most liberal? Do you realize how dumb that sounds?

His money, his business decision.

Catch up....Trump has discussed those donations - as have FReepers - at length.

As a business owner, I’ve supported causes of folks that I later decided no longer deserved my support.

{”Cruz needs a decade or two of making payroll.....you know, where you sign the FRONT of the checks AND guarantee they’ll cash.”}

Having owned three businesses and made payroll, and sometimes under extremely trying circumstances ( like 2008 crash), I hardly see that as qualification for being President of the US.

We’ve had businessmen presidents before. Hoover ran a mine and was a mining engineer. Carter ran the peanut farm. H.W.Bush made a fortune in the oil business before politics, George W. had a Master’s Degree in Business.

Cruz graduated in the top of his class at Princeton and Harvard, edited The Harvard Law Review (and actually wrote reviews, as opposed to lazy Obama who did not). He was Sol. Gen. in Texas for 5 years and argued 9 cases before the US Supreme Court. He also served as an appellate attorney in private practice. He ran a grassroots campaign to win the Senate seat as an underdog.

Personally, I have a lot of confidence in Cruz’ creddentials.

Further, some of our best presidents have actually been career politicians.

I’ve noticed most Trump supporters actually like Cruz...most don’t spew vitriol on Cruz threads and most would vote for Cruz ,

You don't visit many Cruz threads do you?

It seems you might have Cruz confused with Rubio since Cruz clearly fought Rubio and the Gang of 8.

My GOPee, libertarian and lib friends/family members do not care for Cruz.

I’ve talked to them, about his accomplishments, til I’m blue in the face.

Most of them do support Trump, even the Hispanics :)

Amen, brother.

I will vote for Trump if he is the nominee because he is likely to be better than Hillary, but I’m not excited about it.

Supporters of the 2nd most conservative candidate here have an irrational hatred of Trump. I think they hate him so much they’d rather vote for the other side. Look at the nasty and knee-jerking reactions they have. It’s not sane.

Yes, I’m well aware of my Senators resume.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on the experience issue ;-)

Then you are going to be SHOCKED; forget about being “amazed”, because you have less than no idea what’s what.

Catch up......

Trump was a registered democrat August 2001 - September 2009. And don't give me the Reagan was a democrat. routine There was a period of decades before he became POTUS. Not just 6 years ago.

Not one Trumpet has explained with any plausibility that Trump won't revert and flip flop to previous positions. As far as I am concerned he can't be trusted.

TRUMP-SESSIONS, 2016

I wouldn't mind that, but I have no idea if Senator Sessions would be interested. Trump would benefit greatly with Sessions or Cruz on the ticket with him.

One thing in Cruz's favor is that he'd be a prime candidate for president after one or two terms as Trump's VP. It has been a long time since a Republican president chose a VP who had much promise as a future presidential candidate. That needs to change. I've often though the Bushes intentionally picked VPs who were unlikely to become good presidential candidates.

Sessions is about Trump's age and might not be interested after four or eight more years.
