Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump just put rival Ted Cruz on notice: Get too hot and I'll have to take you down.
Describing the senator from Texas as "nice and supportive," Trump told CNBCâs "Squawk Box" on Monday that the two candidates have similar ideas on many of the issues, including border security and the need for a wall to keep out illegal immigrants.
"[But] If he catches on, I guess we'll have to go to war," Trump said of Cruz, who's seen a bit of a bump nationally and in the early contest states of Iowa and New Hampshire since last week's Republican debate.

Trump may just tap him for AG. Wouldn’t that be great?
I’d love to see him chew up 0 and Hellary.
The problem with Cruz is I don’t think he could win the general election. He’s just not that well known and it’s taken him months to approach double figures in the Republican primary polls. It will take some time for less informed voters to become comfortable with Cruz and decide they want to see him as president.
Far better if he ran as VP with Trump or continued on in the Senate. Maybe a SCOTUS appointment.
“Talk about a war...if The Donald goes after Cruz, FR will get to be pretty bloody, pretty quick.”
Like it isn’t already?
I’m more worried about if it’s a Trump/Cruz ticket. Or vice versa. The rapid, mouth-foaming Cruzsters won’t be able to handle it. They’ll probably vote for Bernie then.
It's because Trump talks tough. They think because Trump talks louder and less like a regular politician that he's believable.
Personally I could give two bleeps about how one talks. I care about action. Trump donated to a traitor in John Kerry. He donated to Hillary. Cruz has the record. While no bet is 100% safe, I have a good idea what to expect from Cruz.
Actually he promised much more than his ulterior agenda was that he’s accomplished... all the hope, healing, jobs, ALOT more campaign promises under the Hope banner if you remember...I sure do.
I never bought in to any of that, he did say he was going to bend us over and screw us, he did accomplish that.

Do it Trump and I’ll stay at home if you become the GOP nominee.
And Cruz needs a semester or two of being a street fighter turned mogul in New York and the Bronx, and moving among the sharks, even global ones. McConnell does not count.
We’ll see if Cruz can hold top spot outside of the Anglo Christian right, for more than ten days, once he tries to broaden his appeal to ever include moderates and Independents, Hispanics and Blacks— required pick ups to win a presidency.
Climbing that mountain matters in a primary.
You have to be thought capable of winning more than your base in a General Election to ever win the primary.
Cruz won’t get that kind of broad support. Right now he is not even speaking to secular voters, blacks, Hispanics, moderates, Independents, and may be turning them off, I don’t know.
“They think Trump is more electable, I believe, and are willing to overlook all else.”
You are dead wrong. I don’t want to have to overlook someone weak on immigration, whether it’s increasing H1Bs or not using the ‘d’ word, which equals amnesty. I think it’s Cruz’s donors that stopped him from saying anything conservative about illegals here and H1Bs until 2 months before the first primary.
Trump is beholden to nobody, so is much more likely to do what he says.
GO TRUMP! GO CRUZ! ~ YOU WIN OR WE LOSE!
TRUMP for President and Sen Ted in his administration - hopefully for VP -other options, his to name) WE MUST ELECT the two of them...TRUMP can get it done and Sen Ted knows how to get it done - Constitutionally and Judicially. Two pair of hands is better than one. Add two great minds and it even gets better!
Trump is a whiny baby. I would be amazed if Ted does not clean his clock.
If Trump builds the wall, and there is no one who knows how to build enormous structures better than Trump, and if he deports the illegals, while NO OTHER CANDIDATE dares to utter the word DEPORT, that will be enough conservative for me for first term.
You can take that to the bank.
Worse than bloody. It will be all out war/
Hey Donald, it’s a shame that you are so insecure in your ability to formulate your vision and policies for Making America Great Again, that you think you cannot win the nomination without destroying everyone whom you perceive as a threat. But, no surprise, you’ve been making the same speech since June. I was all-in for you until you became a loud mouth bully, but, you can kiss my ass on both sides. And if you think you will win Iowa after you called Iowans “stupid” Thursday night, you’re in for a surprise. Grow up asshole!
Yeah, like the ones he sent Hilary Clinton for her campaign, and the ones to the Clinton Foundation?
I’ve noticed that the boss supports both Trump and Cruz.
I’ve noticed most Trump supporters actually like Cruz...most don’t spew vitriol on Cruz threads and most would vote for Cruz , if he were to become the nominee.
I’ve notice most Cruz suporters have nothing but disdain for Trump, and spew the most hateful drivel about him. There are a FEW exceptions.
