In Turkey on Monday, President Barack Obama stated that ISIS is not "a traditional military opponent" and labeled it as a "violent extremist group."
His comments cut directly to the heart of why the U.S. has been so ineffectual in defeating this enemy.
If we don't even recognize it for what it is, how can we defeat it?
ISIS is not a terrorist organization. It is indeed a state. It is a "traditional military opponent."
Though ISIS uses unorthodox means and barbaric tactics, it has become a "state" – a state that could have been crippled if not wiped out long ago.
A terrorist group that controls and governs a land mass estimated to be the size of the state of Indiana or larger — and that has all the attributes of the governing body, is a state.

My point is that Obama does not recognize a terrorist when he sees one.

And what is the difference between ISIS, which are just fundamentalists Muslims, and the Japanese in WWII, which were fundamentalist Nationalists that were almost invisible for years in the islands in the Far East during WWII?
What do you do to this type of opponent? You exterminate them at the source. Westerners have the power to destroy Islam, if they have the will.
Allah which does not exist cannot save them, but a very merciful God of Abraham can, perhaps. He might have other ideas, though.

Short version: To establish a caliphate, they need to control territory. Ergo, denying them control of territory invalidates their claim to be a budding caliphate per their own doctrines.

The accepted meaning of ISIS is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. To Obama it's the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. This is a big distinction. The levant is a broad historicl region that includes Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel in addition to Syria. Basically all the Middle Eastern nations on the Mediterranean east of Egypt. And as such he is giving ISIS a much larger claim to territory. Now the question is, does ISIS/ISIL actually claim the entire Levant or is Obama giving that to them?
I beleive I have heard that the real stated goal is that ISIS wants the entire Levant and their goal was initially translated as just Syria, probably because the concept of the Levant is sort of archaic and not well understood in the USA these days.
So technically I think Obama is right, they consider themselves ISIL and not (merely) ISIS. It indicates they are more ambitious then just ISIS would imply.
Of course were I President I would not honor their desire for the entire Levant region by recognizing it in their name. In fact I would call them ISH, the Islamic State of Hell. And I'd help them claim that territory that rightly belongs to them.

How do you possibly come to that conclusion? Its idiotic. Obozo is a defender of Isis and looks for excuses to apologize for them. He loves Islam. But his description of their organization isnt wrong just because he said it.

The Japs were a conventional enemy and were fighting a conventional war. They were a real state and had a government with fixed locations. Isis is a fluid band of terrorists who transiently hold land are not a real government. You cant fight them the same way we fought the Japanese. The Iraqis tried to fight us using conventional warfare in Desert Storm. They were quickly destroyed. When we went back to fight gulf war II the Iraqi army had learned their lesson and disappeared into the population. Isis will do the same.
