Two days after the horrendous jihadist attacks in Paris, Pope Francis preached about the “end times,” encouraging his hearers to be vigilant and ready at any moment to meet God face to face.

This article needs to be taken out of breaking news. I hardly ever agree with anything this Pope says and I’m Catholic, but this is pure sensationalism made to look like he is tying what happened in Paris to the end of the world which he most certainly did not.

As has been said repeatedly, this was part of the Readings all Catholics all over the world read yesterday and would have read whether a terrorist attack had happened anywhere or not. And I am ashamed of whatever writer at Breitbart did this.

I had put it in the Religion Forum myself yesterday.

What needed to be debunked has been debunked already in this thread, but you have to read the whole thing.

The author of the article provided a link to those daily readings within the article.

The author never said anything different ---

The man who wrote the article is a [Roman] Catholic priest and theologian (allegedly of some renown) who lives in Rome, according to bio info I looked up yesterday.

There was a power outage here at my locale early this morning, so I lost the link... or I would provided that in this note. Should I go dig for it again (it wasn't difficult, try the author's page at amazon.com maybe?).

Try reading the entire article. Then come back and tell us what's the matter with it.

Looks like the pope-a-dope wants the end of the world to come real soon. Sorry, old man in a dress and red shoes, but the end of the world will come soon enough, without you encouraging the subhuman savages to make it come.

This is the end of the liturgical year when the readings focus on end times.

There is no story here, just ignorant reporters.

And those who pile on without the slightest benefit of knowledge or comprehension, I am most concerned about, aka, you. Even dancing with the Stars is offering as I speak prayers for France.

I didn’t read his sermon, but I’m betting the media are doing the usual sensational spinning. Most Christians believe that only God knows the hour the world will end. Usually when this is discussed, it is a reminder that we should ALWAYS be ready.

Than they had best quickly learn gardening and animal husbandry - or else hunting ... As such skill sets was of common practice by most Americans in the not too distant past of this nation.

I didn't get that impression at all, not even close, although among evangelicals there has long been a saying, directed to the Lord, "even so, come [return to us] quickly".

I don't have a problem with the sentiment expressed in that way... See possibly Revelation 22:20

This pope eschews the red shoes, I've read somewhere. (I've been waiting to write eschews shoes for some time now, hehhehheh...)

Aah, but maybe you are referring to the 12'ers' when you mentioned encouraging the subhuman savages?

I think I see what you meant. You were referring to those among the Shia sects who make it out to be that they must create world-wide chaos to set the stage for the long lost '12th imam' to return?

The way those people put it, Jesus will be the sidekick in that "show"... the second banana, so to speak.

They are wrong, across the board. It's not at all fair to blame Christianity for how Islamicists have corrupted and perverted that which came to the world that was of God, long before mad Mo hi-jacked and flat-out stole (and then corrupted) everything he could get his hands on...

The article ended with Mr. Bergoglio (aka Pope Francis) quoted, alleged to have said (translated into English, I assume);

"We are called to live the present," Francis said, but always ready to meet God whenever he may call.

At the end of the world, Francis said, "Jesus' triumph will be the triumph of the cross, the demonstration that the sacrifice of oneself out of love for one's neighbor, in imitation of Christ, is the only victorious power and the only stable point in the midst of the upheavals and tragedies of the world."

The Pope also warned against an unhealthy curiosity to know details of the future, with recourse to psychics and horoscopes, saying they distract us from what is really important in the present.

We are called rather "to watchfulness," Francis said, that keeps us focused and ready at all times.

"In our days," he concluded, "there is no lack of natural and moral disasters, as well as adversities of every kind."

"The Lord tells us that everything passes and only He and his Word remain as a light to guide and strengthen our steps," he said.

I appreciate Mr. Bergoglio putting in a good word for the Word, there at the end, although I confess to having some degree of disquietness for just how it appears he included mention of sacrifice of oneself out of love for one's neighbor, when it appears that various powers that be (including Bergoglio) are apparently seeking to force the Western world to take in wave after wave of Islamicists --- and have those people (who hate our guts for not converting to Islam, who hate our guts and everything else about ourselves for our own actively resisting their efforts to convert the world to that system of governance, which delves into every single aspect of life, including just 'how' to brush one's own teeth!) for our own actual & nearby "neighbors".

The writer of the article included a link (within the below paragraph, which was the fifth paragraph, and only the sixth entire sentence within the article, which I'll reproduce here including the link to http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111515.cfm);

Commenting on Sunday's Scripture readings, the Pope said that Jesus' preaching about the end of the world contains "apocalyptic elements, like war, famine, and cosmic catastrophes."

But you say;

Really? The writer of the article is "ignorant"?

The by-line at Breitbart attributes authorship (identity of the "reporter") as being THOMAS D. WILLIAMS PhD. That was the amazon link...

Now for the author's own web page;

http://www.thomasdwilliams.com/

Thomas Williams is a theologian, author, consultant and international speaker. He holds degrees in theology, philosophy and business administration, as well as a diploma in languages and classical humanities. He taught theology for more than a decade at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum in Rome, where he served as dean of the theology school for 7 years. He has also taught and lectured in Ireland, Poland, Peru, Venezuela, Spain, Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, Cote D'Ivoire, and the USA. Williams was ordained a Catholic priest in 1994 and later granted a dispensation by the Holy See in order to marry in the Church.

Dr. Williams has served as consultant and commentator on faith, ethics and religion for several television networks, including NBC, CBS and Sky News, covering papal trips and Church affairs, and offering commentary and analysis of ethical issues in the news. He was appointed by the Holy See as spokesperson for the 1997 Synod for America and the 2001 Synod on Bishops.

Dr. Williams was the founding publisher of Zenit News Agency, a post he occupied for 13 years. A prolific writer, Williams has published 15 books and dozens of articles and essays on a broad variety of topics, and has given numerous lectures and speeches on subjects that range from Christian spirituality to media ethics to the new atheism. His latest book, an interview by Robert Moynihan, is titled But for the Grace of God.

Thomas Williams lives in Rome with his wife Elizabeth and their family.

Yeah, this "reporter's" (Thomas Williams) level and amount of ignorance about [Roman] Catholicism is surpassed only by what amounts of hydrogen and helium there is in the entire universe!

This proves that Roman Catholicism, and the present individual who many identify as being "pope" are continually maligned, misunderstood, misquoted & falsely accused.

It's all a giant plot, and FR is in on it too! Freeper Biggirl must be one of those CINO's (if 'Catholic' at all) since she's so obviously an undercover agent provocateur!

She was the original poster of this thread. What more evidence is required? How do you know she's not Alex Murphy, in disguise? Just because she did not engage in the same criminal italicizing and article quoting that AM was famous for, does not mean that the freeper known as Biggirl is not one of AM's many handles here.

He's tricky that way, and is probably still a forum moderator!!! (no matter what JimRob says)

And if you think I'm mocking you who here calls himself "St_Thomas_Aquinas" --- you would be correct.

Ignorant reporter?

Shooting from the lip --- you just blew your own foots off.

Maybe we should all just call you 'Stumpy' from here on out.

Would that be ok?

Drop the meme, Stumpy.

It simply is not a one-size-fit's-all 'killer application' for being an everyday/every situation support apparatus for smug Catholic's persecution complexes.
