The Board of Trustees at Texas Christian University voted to opt out of the campus carry law on Friday.
The Senate Bill 11, more commonly known as campus carry, amends the government and penal code to allow handgun license owners to carry a concealed gun on college and university campuses.
However, private universities, such as TCU, may choose to opt out after input from the campus community. Following a series of debates, open forums and surveys, the board made its decision.
âIt was quite clear that no matter which side of the issue each person felt was best, all cared deeply about the safety of the community,â Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kathy Cavins-Tull said in a statement.
As a result of this vote, TCU's policy prohibiting guns on campus remains in effect.
Back in June, Southern Methodist University confirmed they would opt out of campus carry.

It’s CONCEALED CARRY - who the f***s gonna know!
Was going to endow to each campus a $1 MILLION dollars for a shooting range..guess will have to look else wheres
And the next nutjob who decides to shoot up a campus in this state, just decided this will be one of the tops of their list as a target.
“and surveys,” WHAT are the results of those surveys!!???
Is it a GUN FREE ZONE ,death trap now
TCU just made themselves a big gun free zone target for the next batch of mass murderers.
I’ll let my son know if TCU is on his list of possibilities to cross it off.
I just make sure...I'm totally concealed.
Um, it's my understanding that an inherent right is not subject to the whims of democracy... or oligarchy... or tyranny.
Some things are, and ought to be, beyond the reach of earthly governance.
Christians led to slaughter..................
TCU issues an open invitation to all psychos and Jihadists to murder its students without opposition.
TCU Target Christian University. Only good guys obey the law.
Gun Free Zone-AKA killing field.
This is a big disappointment. Now the only guns on campus will be in he hands of the criminals—and the police—if anyone can find them and get them there in time.
Yep, when I send my daughter off to college she will have a cute little Ruger LCP hidden away in her backpack. No one has to know.
I'm guessing it has something to do with liability. As in the college's lawyer saying: Suppose a CCW holder drops his gun, and it goes off and hits somebody. Since the college allowed the concealed carry, it could be on the hook for millions.
The trustees probably didn't want to take that (minimal) risk. Better to be a "gun free" zone. Nobody gets sued for that, regardless of the consequences.
That’s as may be.
As far as the individual is concerned, better tried by twelve, or even - gasp = expelled, than carried by six.
And unless you’re a Bonehead, no one should ever know.
