Carson is not Jehovah’s witness, but Seventh Day Adventist.

One evidence of “cult” is that the Bible takes a back seat to a charismatic person and often that person’s writings which are deemed equal to, or more important than, the Bible. SDA’s person is Ellen G. White and her writings.

SDA practices shunning, also an attribute of a cult. (Christianity reaches out with love.)

There’s so much more. The study of cults is interesting.

Yes; Saturday is the Sabbath and under the Law in the Old Testament and Jews worshipped then. Under grace, following Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, the first day of the week became the Christians’ day of worship. (In the New Testament, only nine of the 10 Commandments are repeated and confirmed. The only one that isn’t confirmed is to “remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.)

In any case, I don’t care if the President belongs to a cult, as long as he strictly honors the Constitution. I believe Carson is a wonderful person with good character and I’d have no problem with him as President, cult member or not, if he’s passionate about the Constitution. Still... I’m for Trump!!

I was in psychotherapy training in the 1980s, time of Jim Jones, EST, Scientology, etc. One trainee asked, “How can you tell if a group is a cult?” The answer was that if it was not a cult, when you wanted to leave, the leaders would wish you good luck and goodbye, but say you are welcome to come back if you wish or need more of what we offer. So how would your church or even congregation treat you if you wanted to leave?

Wouldn’t that show a weakness of mind? Would you really want someone like that in charge? My goodness.

BTW — you might be surprised to know that I am glad Carson fell in the polls recently. He is evidentally wrong on many issues, though my ‘research’ on Carson was never serious.

My only aim was to shore up his dignity and discourage conservatives from lashing out with personal attacks against upstanding individuals.

Now for religion and ‘cults’

All sagely religions of Christianity put their own theology abouve scripture. That’s the problem. Jesus warned us about scribes — not just the pharisees. The true test of faith is found in miracles, not in books. [Last chapter of Luke if I recall.] So

“SDA practices shunning, also an attribute of a cult.”

The word ‘cult’ is almost as derogatory as ‘terrorist’. People think of brainwashing through drugs or protein depravation or hypnosis or extreme isolation, etc.
