A meal without wine is an insult to the French.
I'm enjoying this clash of culinary culture, I can root for the French for once.
I just hope they stand their ground.

It’s an insult to me as well! I’ve been known to change what I want for dinner to suit the wine I’m in the mood for.

I don’t know why compromise couldn’t be reached. On the one hand, if I were serving an observant Jew, hospitality would indicate that I should make it kosher. No difference with Muslim guests.
But wine at the table doesn’t have to mean wine down a Muslim’s throat. They could just abstain.
