Why aren’t Republicans trying to figure out how to take out Ben Carson?
The Washington Post ^ | November 9th, 2015 | By Paul Waldman

You may remember that a couple of months ago when it became clear that Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was more than just a momentary bit of entertainment, parts of the GOP swung into action. They found the idea of Trump becoming the Republican nominee horrifying, not just because of his imperfect commitment to conservative dogma, but because he’d be almost certain to lose, delivering the White House to a Democrat who would probably be Hillary Clinton.

So they huddled together to come up with a plan. “Top strategists for Trump’s rivals and some corporate and conservative interests are working with opposition researchers, messaging experts, and focus-group gurus to find some plausible scheme to end what has already become an enduring nightmare for much of the Republican establishment: Donald Trump, Front-Runner,” wrote Mark Halperin in September. Wall Street wrung its hands. Bill Kristol said that if Trump were the nominee, he’d support a third-party candidate. The Club for Growth dropped a million dollars into ads attacking Trump in Iowa. Anti-Trump super PACs were planned.

This campaign hasn’t amounted to much, probably because those insiders just couldn’t figure out how to take Trump on in an effective way. But the question today is this: Why aren’t they trying to do the same thing to Ben Carson?

"There is an obvious note of contempt in your “do gooders” remarks."

"Do-gooders" in my lexicon originated with the Progressive movement at the turn of the 20th century.

They have us Prohibition, Women's suffrage, Social Security, the Welfare State and the 17th Amendment.

In all cases their motives were good.

Rxcellent analysis.

my theory since i realized carson was really a favorite of the leftist gopes going way back. my guess that he was recruited from the dem party by the gope and gradually set up previous to this year. basically:

carson is the black jeb.C

Rubio is the hispanic jeb.

Jeb is the white jeb.

They split up the clueless gop vote until all conservatives are taken out.

In all cases their motives were good.

As opposed to your liberal motives. Which are NOT good.

If we aren’t careful he could end up being the nominee because we are all supposed to shut up when it comes to any scrutiny of him.

People are so busy sticking up for the personal attacks on him that they are totally missing his policy positions.

Truth is(maybe it is just me), I am not sure he is totally firm on what his positions actually are.

Game plan in a nutshell.

No need. He’ll take himself out though I hope it’s soon before he does even more damage to us.

I not at all for "taking out" any GOP opponent, especially by another GOP candidate (ala McCain and especially as Romney did so effectively!)

Let each candidate expose their ideas and voting record if applicable, past writings, speeches and statements on the issues Americans care the most about (excluding phony "issues" media pose in collusion with the DNC to gin up fear mongering over which GOP is the "most scarey!")

In my opinion, the media only "exposes" candidates' supposed misstatements or suspected "actions" to "soften up" said candidate for Hillary!

Because he seems to be doing a fine enough job on his own.

Exactly. It's like trying to put buggy whip and sealing wax manufacturers out of business.

some previous leftist positions he’s changed and fuzzed for conservative cover. he has to somewhat fit the false media narrative as a gop outsider and mainstream evangelical.

but things like statehood for puerto rico, amnesty? that’s pure leftist. he’s very easy to make as a leftist.

Carson’s doing a GREAT job of taking himself out: announced he is pro-TTP to send the few remaining U.S. manufacturing jobs to Asia, wants two more kommie Senators and three more kommie House Reps from Puerto Rico plus have U.S. taxpayer pickup PRs billions of dollars of bankrupt socialism bonds, and now has announced his support of illegal immigration.

And all of that was just in the last two days!!! No one needs to lift a finger to nuke Carson just so long as he keeps giving speeches.

Anyone who thinks I am a liberal is stupid.

Carson: “I tried to stab my mother”

Media: “That’s not true!”

I’m confused about whether or not the media supports him or against him.

I can’t remember a campaign like this one.

That being said, I do like Ben Carson but I’m hoping Ted Cruz moves up to the top.

They are. The problem is both the Leftists, and the GOPE, don’t get it. The old political tactics of lies and slander don’t work. The old politics of “resume” candidates don’t work.

People are fed up with the arrogant defiant corrupt incompetence of the DC Media/Political/Business Establishment. The Establishment has failed so spectacularly so frequently, so blatantly that about 60% of the voters no long trust anything they say.

When the Media machine makes these absurd nonsensical attack on Trump, or Carson, they just reinforce their standings as “outsiders”.

And, a reasonable analysis?

Reasonable? That's the first time I've seen that word used in association with the Compost in decades.
