You may remember that a couple of months ago when it became clear that Donald Trumpâs presidential campaign was more than just a momentary bit of entertainment, parts of the GOP swung into action. They found the idea of Trump becoming the Republican nominee horrifying, not just because of his imperfect commitment to conservative dogma, but because heâd be almost certain to lose, delivering the White House to a Democrat who would probably be Hillary Clinton.
So they huddled together to come up with a plan. âTop strategists for Trumpâs rivals and some corporate and conservative interests are working with opposition researchers, messaging experts, and focus-group gurus to find some plausible scheme to end what has already become an enduring nightmare for much of the Republican establishment: Donald Trump, Front-Runner,â wrote Mark Halperin in September. Wall Street wrung its hands. Bill Kristol said that if Trump were the nominee, heâd support a third-party candidate. The Club for Growth dropped a million dollars into ads attacking Trump in Iowa. Anti-Trump super PACs were planned.
This campaign hasnât amounted to much, probably because those insiders just couldnât figure out how to take Trump on in an effective way. But the question today is this: Why arenât they trying to do the same thing to Ben Carson?

Rubio’s support of amnesty finished him off.
Yes, he truly has the wool pulled over the eyes of the evangelicals. They follow him like sheep and he mocks them, having nothing but contempt for their beliefs. I wonder what they would think if they knew he thinks all Sunday worshipers have the Mark of the Beast?
Religious issues aside, how can anyone call themselves Conservative and support Carson?
Or maybe it will be more like a Rumba or cha-cha-cha.
my theory since i realized carson was really a favorite of the leftist gopes going way back. my guess that he was recruited from the dem party by the gope and gradually set up previous to this year. basically:
carson is the black jeb.
rubio is the hispanic jeb.
jeb is the white jeb.
they split up the clueless gop vote until all conservatives are taken out.
He gets them going to the point where they'll do just about anything to be free of him.
Carson's a sedative. Even people who don't like him just want to curl up some place and have a nap.
Its not a correction. I merely saw...
THE OBVIOUS!!!
;)
Last I heard Trump took over the lead once again. Seems he is holding his own without destroying Carson who will self implode one of these days.
“Perhaps because the GOPe supports Amnesty and TPP and Carson is right in there with them.
As Onyx pointed out, TPP is 5500 pages long and Carson was on board within 24 hours of its release.”
I think you are exactly right.
Load of crap. But people who mock evangelicals are usually full of crap.
The fact is Evangelicals have far greater choices than Carson.
Ever heard of Ted Cruz or even Mike Huckabee?
Plausible, maybe even likely.
I remember when Pat Buchanan came in first in one of the early primaries, I think it was 1996, I heard a lib reporter say: "I like Pat, I really do, but we are gonna have to take him out." And they did. The GOPe didn't want Pat hanging around because they preferred the loser Dole. Come to think of it I think they really didn't want to disturb Clinton's second term.
All the GOPe has to do is sit back and let the gaggle of leftist hyenas do their work for them.
Things are different this time around. I can feel it in ma bones.
I, nor anybody else I know of, said that all, or even most evangelicals support Carson.
My contention is that what support he has is nearly limited to Evangelical do-gooders.
I believe the polls bear that out.
I don’t understand who these mysterious Carson supporters are.
If they were for Cruz, they would be showing up in the polls for Cruz.
If they were for Trump, they would be showing up for Trump.
It’s like they have parked their temporary support for Carson.
Maybe they are really Rubio or Bush supporters, hiding behind Carson
for the moment.
It is a mystery who these Carson supporters are.
Thinking from the totalitarian thug left - only acceptable candidates have the right to run. Or even speak.
“My contention is that what support he has is nearly limited to Evangelical do-gooders.”
Leaving aside for a moment that what you said might (not) be true; I wonder what you have against evangelicals? There is an obvious note of contempt in your “do gooders” remarks.
Why are some conservatives trying to take out Ben Carson using BS nonsense from the left instead of real criticisms from the right?
I think your analysis is astute.
I refuse to engage in all the hyenas attacking Carson but I think you’ve called it accurately.
Not likely. A mass of voters does not hide their affinity.
No, they really like Carson, the gentle man, quiet and compassionate.
They are the "Compassionate Conservative" wing of the GOP.
good point
That is as good of a guess, as any.
