You may remember that a couple of months ago when it became clear that Donald Trumpâs presidential campaign was more than just a momentary bit of entertainment, parts of the GOP swung into action. They found the idea of Trump becoming the Republican nominee horrifying, not just because of his imperfect commitment to conservative dogma, but because heâd be almost certain to lose, delivering the White House to a Democrat who would probably be Hillary Clinton.
So they huddled together to come up with a plan. âTop strategists for Trumpâs rivals and some corporate and conservative interests are working with opposition researchers, messaging experts, and focus-group gurus to find some plausible scheme to end what has already become an enduring nightmare for much of the Republican establishment: Donald Trump, Front-Runner,â wrote Mark Halperin in September. Wall Street wrung its hands. Bill Kristol said that if Trump were the nominee, heâd support a third-party candidate. The Club for Growth dropped a million dollars into ads attacking Trump in Iowa. Anti-Trump super PACs were planned.
This campaign hasnât amounted to much, probably because those insiders just couldnât figure out how to take Trump on in an effective way. But the question today is this: Why arenât they trying to do the same thing to Ben Carson?

And, a reasonable analysis?
They are. Its working about as well as it did with Trump.
The REAL question is “Why aren’t CONSERVATIVES trying to take Ben Carson out? “
Because he seems to be doing a fine enough job on his own.
Perhaps because the GOPe supports Amnesty and TPP and Carson is right in there with them.
As Onyx pointed out, TPP is 5500 pages long and Carson was on board within 24 hours of its release.
Republicans (conservatives) rely on the public will
It's like the free market ... we rise and fall on our own merits
Why would we want to "take someone out" ?
Carson serves a purpose
Yeb, on the other hand .....
Conservatives are. Leftists are trying to defend one of their own.
I think it’s their abject fear of the Racism charge.
Yeah, you have a point there...
Several answers.
1. Why would republicans even WANT to take out Carson? He’s not screwing up too badly. Leave him alone.
2. Even if Repubs (GOP-e) WANTED to “take him out’ they are too stupid and incompetent. They wanted to take Trump put too. How’d that work out, hmmm?
3. Stupid question. Carson is serving a useful purpose and Yeb is losing points on a daily basis. This is why Repubs NEED Carson.
I stand corrected.
It could be that or it could be the Obama factor. Just as in the case of O, Carson supporters seem to follow him in a robotic way, oblivious to his positions.
Because he’s for sale. Just ask the fake cancer cure people.
Why bother? He ain’t going anywhere.
You’re dang skippy they are!
He's corrected me a few times too:)
His support is almost limited to the Evangelical do-gooders.
Don't get me wrong, they are the salt of the earth.
But sometimes us hard-asses have to slap them and tell them to THINK. :)
Yeah, he does that : )
He is a place holder.
He is there to push a narrative that he has this massive support base, that is supposedly tied or beating Trump in the polls.
His purpose is to erode Trump’s support by showing him “losing” to Carson. Their hope is that it fractures that Trump support as people will think it’s over for him and diffuse out to other canidates. Accomplishing that, the GOPe would has disposed of him as you see now in order to move Jeb through with no real opposition.
What happened is that Carson: Plan A hasn’t worked. Jeb tanked, and so they are making their move with Rubio (note all of the fawning stories about him). They need to now rid themselves of Carson and movie Rubio into that spot to get at Trump because it is all they have left.
” His support is almost limited to the Evangelical do-gooders.”
Overall good people, but they sometimes make serious mistakes. Remember Jimmuh.
