(CNN)Black football players at the University of Missouri have joined calls demanding the ouster of the president of the state's four-campus university system over alleged inaction against racism on campus.
About 30 players made their thoughts known Saturday night in a tweet posted by Missouri's Legion of Black Collegians.
"The athletes of color on the University of Missouri football team truly believe "Injustice Anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere," read the tweet. "We will no longer participate in any football related activities until President Tim Wolfe resigns or is removed due to his negligence toward marginalized students' experience."
The players' move is the latest salvo in a spiraling debate over the experiences of African-American students at Missouri, who have complained of inaction on the part of school leaders in dealing with racism on the overwhelmingly white campus.

“.... the true argument is made that it funds academia.”
All the more reason!!!
The argument could also be made that at certain universities that enjoy significant sports revenues, football and basketball fund all the other athletic programs, some of which exist solely to satisfy Title IX. Not sure how much of that revenue goes to hard-core academics.
What if (absurd notion, I know) colleges/universities actually became all about learning? Too many colleges today are turning out morons who can barely string together a coherent sentence. BUT they want to get a top-paying job before the degree’s ink is dry.
I don’t want to over-generalize, because it’s not true everywhere, but it’s obscene when sports dictate how a college operates.
This is where the University has to trend carefully, if the Governor does not support the institution.
Don’t blame the Universities. Many fine games were played before the advent of Television.
Athletics is a curriculum as you know.
Had forgotten about that.
What a mess.
If the Governor supported a lie then he must live with his supporter.
Cancel the season followed by revoking the scholarships of anyone that has participated.
Good cut their scholarships, and kick them off the team.
There are simply too many people that do want to play.
Mizzou’s first choice was the Big 10. The conference improved academically with the addition of Mizzou and A&M.
This is blackmail, pure and simple. Bad enough the athletic departments get whatever funding they want, but if they are running the University, then it is nothing but an expensive sports camp with a little academics on the side.
No place to get an education. If the football team wins, I'd transfer out of that place so damned fast the paperwork would auto-ignite.
Really, Thats gonna be your story and your gonna stick to it?
Yes and I support athletics as a curriculum, not as a way for middle ages men to hero worship 19 years old.
Nothing more pathetic to see some duffer walking around in the jersey of one of these dimwits.
“Yes and I support athletics as a curriculum”
So, you’re one of those athletic supporters...?
The SEC needed A&M and Mizzou like a new couple of holes in the head.
Their Conference of teams whacked themselves in the head until nothing was left. You say we brought them in for Academics????????
The SEC saved their ass.
They can’t get rid of, he’s trm-limited.
It has nothing to do with us. These men are playing football on their own accord.
College Football is an activity which helps the school and greatly benefits the player whether he makes Pro or not.
Keep in mind that College Football was around long before Pro Ball.
“Not sure how much of that revenue goes to hard-core academics. What if (absurd notion, I know) colleges/universities actually became all about learning?”
Even with a football team, for what it’s worth, Harvard has amassed an endowment of $36,429,256,000. That billions of dollars not spent on learning. And if learning is “maxed out,” how about they drastically cut tuition? But they don’t.
Judging by their record so far, seems like the team has been on strike all year.
So - you don’t play, your scholarships are cancelled, go home.
But ... did athletics dominate the campus before the advent of television? Did colleges and universities recruit and make up %*&$^# courses for their athletes, just to keep the TeeVee revenues flowing? (OK, there are only a few ‘colleges’ left. Even what used to be junior colleges are all now ‘universities’)
I’d say more than the universities, the alumni are to blame. I have a friend who only half jokingly complained that her father bequeathed more $ to his alma mater’s mediocre athletic program than to his four children, combined. He didn’t leave a bequest to its engineering or business or law departments, but only to the athletics! He’s not alone.
He’s a politically motivated buttkisser supreme
I cannot speak for where folks leave their money, I can only say that this story is about a football team that refuses to play.
I say let the cards out and see what you have.
If Missouri caves to this, they no longer have a decorum of any University.
