Did he say what caliber? The XP-100 went on sale in 1963 and was only available in 221 Fireball at the time.

If that be so, it then proves that the Government wanted 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifles banned (as they were in 1968) to really protect American gun makers Remington, Winchester and Savage from cheap foreign competition.
