Now doubts are cast on Carson’s story of sheltering white classmates during Detroit race riots
Daily Mail ^ | 11/7/2015 | Kelly Mclaughlin

As Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson defends his past descriptions of receiving a scholarship offer for the US Military Academy at West Point, new doubts have been on his past, including a story of how he sheltered white classmates during Detroit race riots. Carson blasted the media on Friday after several reports questioned the validity of his book, Gifted Hands, but the presidential hopeful told the press that they were being unfair and he felt like the victim of a ‘witch hunt’.

Questions about Carson's assertions about his personal history, including his claim that he was a troubled youth beset at times by violent behavior, and his inaccurate pronouncements about historical events have gained attention as he has risen to the top of some national polls.

'I think what it shows, and these kinds of things show, is there is a desperation on behalf of some to try to find a way to tarnish me,' Carson said no Friday night during a news conference outside West Palm Beach. 'Because they have been looking through everything,' he added. 'They have been talking to everyone I have ever known and everybody I have ever seen. There has got to be a scandal.'

He told reporters, 'My job is to call you out when you're unfair, and I'm going to continue to do that.'

The most recent story under question is a harrowing tale he told last month of protecting his white high school classmates the day after Dr Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated in 1968. Violent race riots hit the neurosurgeon-turned-politician’s predominantly black Southwestern High School in Detroit. Carson, who was a junior lab assistant with a key to the school’s biology lab, sheltered his frightened friends from violence by bringing them into the workroom, he told the Wall Street Journal.

I can see we will have to take time out of celebrating to talk you down off the roof on Inaugural Day. :-)

I agree with most of what you said BUT:

* I dont think advocating an honest media equates to "sticking our necks out". I am believe that you still fight the good fight.

* Conservative alternative media helped expose the corrupt old media. Remember that Dan Rather was exposed by a FReeper. There is a reason why conservative talk radio is so popular.

It infuriates me that a man like Dr. Carson who is no doubt quirky is somehow equivalent to the pathological liars on the left who have publicly demonstrated years of dishonesty, corruption and criminality.

Advocating honest media is a given. It would be nuts to do anything else. With sticking our necks out, I mean rushing to the defense of people that don’t particularly deserve the effort.

Every day the media does assassinations of people that have done nothing to warrant the attack and no one runs to their defense when those are the people that need it most.

Carson does not deserve unwarranted attacks any more than anyone does. On the other hand, he has said plenty of flatly anti conservative and flat out Anti American things. His desire to disarm people in populated areas is blatantly unAmerican. And he did exactly that. Forget his blatantly unAmerican support for illegals or the rest. He should get no support from any American based on that one act alone. To support him is to support his intentions.

So when I say sticking our necks out, I mean sticking it on a choppung block or a noose. Because if we save him from them and ultimately from himself, he comes back to strip us of constitutional rights and by his own words, assist illegal aliens in this country.

Such a man deserves open scorn. To simply stand aside and let the left dine on one of what is demonstratively a fellow traveler, is in the best interest of America.

If we wish to put effort to defending against the media, and we should, we should expend that effort on a fellow American, not a fellow traveler.

I like Clinton

Saying that out loud at Free Republic is a good way to draw the zot.

FWIW, I can't understand what you could possibly like about Bill Clinton. His negatives are too numerous to mention.

You honestly think that anyone who wasn’t ‘here’ to read about Clinton, doesn’t know all about Clinton and his/their dirty deeds? That’s insulting quite honestly and does nothing to bolster the claim that Clinton was in anyway a good/decent President.

I should have kept going through the thread before my reply, I see you already addressed it.

I find that I don’t agree with you on too much, but on this thread, this point, I agree with you completely.

Anyone who can claim that pos lying thieving doggin’ Clinton was anywhere close to being ‘good’ or decent, is full of you know what. Sickening

Of course, and I can’t even say I disagree with you in principle. I just find it so challenging to read the same thoughts over and over. It comes out as narrow minded, I doubt that’s what you are aiming for, yet it’s how I see it.

Anyway, I couldn’t get through the rest of that thread. So pathetic it was. I’m convinced, people are flippin nuts!

That is what I love about FreeRepbulic. You provided a well framed response informative response. I will be reading up on Dr Carson but my opinion is he does not fundamentally hate America like the traitorous left and their accomplices in the media.

There is one reason I do it. And believe me I wish I didn’t have to. But people insist on the same excuses over and over.

So it’s either rebut it proactively or let them once again steer the debate into another loss foe conservatism.

In the last week alone I have had over 10 people, one thread lasting over 4 days, repeating the same lies about votes for one person being counted for another. holding feet to fire. All that.

Most of FR isnt active posters. It’s lurkers. Propaganda wars are won by propagandists repeating a lie until it becomes ‘truth’ in the mind of the public. So if I and a few others don’t argue their same old crap, who will? The arguement against them does not change because it was true to begin with...and truth is what it is.

I give you my word. When the liberal crap stops, I’ll shut up. Because I will have no reason to oppose what is not there.

Besides, Fallout 4 is coming out Tuesday so someone will have to carry the torch anyway. ;)

Enjoy your new game :)

I appreciate what you are stating, I understand and therefore it is up to me to skim comments that aren’t interesting to me. I think the bigger issue is when I see a pile on happening, sometimes people aren’t so clever at stating what they think. Myself, I know what you’re saying and it’s valid. It takes time for others to shed the blinders and this world has gone mad. Maybe people want to try and hold on to something they believe is real and true, for them.

Point being, I do get it. I just wonder if there is another manner it can be presented. Knee capping people doesn’t really endear them to one’s point of view. Just sayin’

I agree. It doesn’t. But going into the forth election cycle, we are well beyond the point of ‘nice’. At this point people pushing the memes arent merely withering violets or uninformed. Most of them are the very same people that we’ve gone round the maypole with for the better part of a decade.

At the end of they day, they want liberalism because they continue promoting people with liberal promises and ideas. Politics is bloodsport. If we lose the fight, we get more liberals.

So it comes down to, “Am I willing to be governed by leftism because I am upuset that feelings may be hurt?”

All FR is is talk. None of us are physically going to war. It’s all just a battle of words and ideas that result in some very real physical results after the votes are cast and liberals take power. If words had prevented an Obama or resulted in a candidate that could have beaten Obama instead of Barry “White” who threw his own election, I would think that some ruffled feathers are small prices to pay.

I fear that when Wonder Man Carson implodes, he will give all of his support to Rove, and the Chamber of Commerce. Almost all of the 15 Republicans are in their pocket.

[Mitt Romney] concerned himself with pure numbers and didn't really worry about whether the base liked him because he relied on fear of the democrats to bring the base on board for the general election.

Boy did you nail it.

During the 2012 primaries, GOP-e operatives and Texas Democrats led by their black caucus operatives litigated the Texas primary, asking forum-shopped liberal fed judges to halt the primary and demand that the State of Texas re-redistrict itself because <paraphrasing> "black voters were being excluded from 'participation' and denied the vote!!!" and demanding a host of 14th Amendment remedies for non-existent "ghost violations" of their civil rights.

The Supreme Court of the United States prorogated the lawsuit <shazzam!>, b*tch-slapped the 'Rats for bringing a pettifogging, b********t political lawsuit and sent it to File 13 like a flaming meteor.

The 'Rats blinked, shook themselves, then blew SCOTUS off and were right back in federal district court the next day with another nitpicking federal lawsuit, trying to delay the Texas primary until Texas conservatives' votes didn't matter any more in the selection of the Republican candidate.

Rather than wade in against the 'Rat meddling in our primary, the GOP-e stood aside, the Texas primary was delayed by something like six or eight weeks, and Texas conservatives were denied our participation in "the process".

About that time, it transpired that Mitt Romney let it be known that he had no plans even to travel to Texas.

Someone in GOP politics somewhere -- it might even have been one of his own staff -- asked him why not, there were tons of Texas voters he'd like to have turn out for him in the "general".

Romney replied, just as you said, cynically. Quoting him, "They'll come to me when I'm the last man standing."

That's what the GOP-e think of us.

"They'll come to me when I'm the last man standing."

Its a great way to dare conservatives to prove how stubborn we can be.
