If, indeed, the driver was being pursued by the cops, why didn't a natural instinct to protect the child in the front seat kick into gear?

I know I would pull over immediately in ANY contingency to protect a son, or stepson in this particular case.

I don't see a single comment on this thread questioning the driver's judgement.

My comment is predicated on the sketchy information provided, of course....and my results may vary.
