âThe campaign never âadmitted to anything,'â a spokesman for Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told The Daily Caller News Foundation in response to a hit by Politico claiming his campaign admitted to âfabricatingâ a key point about his West Point story.
âThe Politico story is an outright Lie,â Doug Watts told TheDCNF.
Politico published a piece Friday claiming Carsonâs campaign âadmits fabricatingâ the fact that he applied and was admitted to West Point.
âBen Carsonâs campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point,â Kyle Cheney writes in the lede.
The Carson campaign disputes Politicoâs unsubstantiated claim he ever claimed to have applied to West Point or been admitted: âHe never said he was admitted or even applied.â
âThis is what we have come to expect from Politico.â
Here is the full statement Watts provided to TheDCNF:
âDr Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit. In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He canât remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carsonâs performance as ROTC City Executive Officer.
He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors. They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission. There are âService Connectedâ nominations for stellar High School ROTC appointments. Again he was the top ROTC student in Detroit. I would argue strongly that an Appointment is indeed an amazing full scholarship. Having ran several Congressional Offices I am very familiar with the Nomination process.
Again though his Senior Commander was in touch with West Point and told Dr. Carson he could get in, Dr Carson did not seek admission.
The Politico story is an outright Lie. Dr. Carson as the leading ROTC student in Detroit was told by his Commanders that he could get an Appointment to the Academy. He never said he was admitted or even applied.
The campaign never âadmitted to anythingâ
This is what we have come to expect from Politico.â
Politico reporter Kyle Cheney, who has the byline on the Carson story, did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.
Trolls? Carson is a SDA, He should not be CINC.
“This is nothing. Carson said he had an offer, which is pretty close to true when a general said it”.
Westmoreland’s schedule for that day put him in Washington, DC not Detroit. Carson just don’t know when to shut up. He gives interviews on the same subject 10 times a day and tells a different version of events.
No kidding.
“Westmorelandâs schedule for that day put him in Washington, DC not Detroit. Carson just donât know when to shut up. He gives interviews on the same subject 10 times a day and tells a different version of events.”
I didn’t know about the first part and agree about the second. I’m not sure why he needs to brag about something so silly when he’s obviously accomplished plenty in his life.
Hell, I fear Carson.
I cannot believe any Freeper in good standing could ever support him for POTUS.
May as well vote for Barney Fife.
Yes, I said it.
ALL, I repeat, ALL Carson supporters are deluded or stupid, or both.
They want a "nice man" for President of the United States.
Those of us who are sane want a killer.
Such unusual assumptions and nastiness in one package. Some things I could live a lifetime and not miss.
“Because I had done so extraordinarily well you know I was told that someone like me [could] get a scholarship to West Point,” Carson told the New York Times. “It was, you know, an informal âwith a record like yours we could easily get you a scholarship to West Point.’”
However, there’s no such thing as an “informal offer” (or even a “full scholarhip”): an application to West Point begins with a nomination by a member of Congress or another prominent government or military official, Ben,and don’t you know that only a Democrat like Hillary can get out of one lie by telling another lie, but that never works for a Republican? It’s part of the double standard imposed by the Democrat-PAC Media.
Oh and you don’t suppose Donald’s hand is on the invisible sword that’s hacking Carson to pieces right now, do you? Trump didn’t get rich by wasting money unnecessarily: hoisting Carson on his own petard and letting the media crucify him for free is WAY cheaper than paying for a bunch of TV ads. (BTW, we haven’t seen the end of the Carson Revelations yet. I predict there’s more to come.)
And it’s pretty clear the Democrat Super-PAC media were building up Carson and Fiorina as GOP heroes, hoping they’d be juicy targets down the road to chop to pieces like they did with Herman Caine, etc. Looks like Trump is beating them to the punch before media-heroes Carson and Fiorina could do much damage to the GOP with their lies and wackiness.

IT STATES:
ADMISSIONS DECISIONS
West Point has a rolling admissions policy. Outstanding, qualified, nominated candidates will be offered admission as their records become complete. All admissions files must be complete, to include nominations, by the last workday in February.
Financial and Service Obligation
As a cadet, you are a member of the U.S. Army and receive a full scholarship and an annual salary of more than $10,000 from which you pay for your uniforms, textbooks, a laptop computer, and incidentals. There is no tuition charge, but there is a requirement for an initial deposit. Room, board, and medical and dental care are provided by the United States Government.

Carson is a bit like Obama in his book. Carson’s claim of being robbed in a fast food joint is being reported as false also. How do you back a SDA for CINC?
How do you back a SDA for CINC?
Ben Carson's claim was in his 1995 book "Gifted Hands".
General Westmoreland died in 2005.
Perhaps some other ad hominem would work for you?
What bothers me most about your post is not that you confused "appointment" and "nomination" (Gen. Westmoreland could offer a nomination, but not an outright appointment), but rather that you assume everyone offered an AA advantage is inferior.
It's not a valid assumption. I know of several specific cases of AA-motivated job offers (likely quota-based) that were made to minorities that were highly qualified. In fact that's one of my arguments against AA: that it automatically renders suspect the qualifications of anyone of that minority that gets a position targeted for AA recruitment. So to those of a given minority that are highly qualified, the AA advantage is unnecessary and stigmatizing.
As for "lying about WP" he seems to have confused "scholarship" and "nomination" without a full accounting of the appointment process, but it's understandable. He was 17 and that's the way he remembers it. But you claim your West Point recruiter, Colonel rank, academy-grad neighbor educated you on the process, yet you mistake "nomination" and "appointment". So by the same standard you too must be a liar.
----
"Before you can be considered for appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, you must obtain a nomination. A nomination does not guarantee appointment to the Academy, however, no appointment can be offered without one."

You are quite the expert. Where is Carson’s LOA from the academy giving him X time to apply?
I 'expertly' demolished your reckless comments, that's all. Just as the Daily Caller demolished Politico's attack on Dr. Carson.
If you have questions about the process, I supplied the authoritative link.
Your have Obama’s disorder. Carson has zip from West Point or there would be a record there. No one can offer him what he claimed without WP having a record of said. Yes, he could meet with folks who could advise him and even say you should be accepted based on your grades and SAT score. That is not the same as being accepted as one needs to pass the physical.
You might ask Carson how he bypassed all of this?

And why didn’t they do the same for the foreign enemy combatant currently occupying our White House? Oh, wait - we know why they didn’t. It wasn’t “cool” to do that because David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, and George Soros threatened the cable and radio companies that they would be annihilated by the FCC if they allowed anybody to seriously question Obama’s eligibility or his Muslim leanings. So anybody who didn’t want to be ridiculed out of the Milky Way instead mocked those who have questioned and ultimately have figured out the truth.
