âThe campaign never âadmitted to anything,'â a spokesman for Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told The Daily Caller News Foundation in response to a hit by Politico claiming his campaign admitted to âfabricatingâ a key point about his West Point story.
âThe Politico story is an outright Lie,â Doug Watts told TheDCNF.
Politico published a piece Friday claiming Carsonâs campaign âadmits fabricatingâ the fact that he applied and was admitted to West Point.
âBen Carsonâs campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point,â Kyle Cheney writes in the lede.
The Carson campaign disputes Politicoâs unsubstantiated claim he ever claimed to have applied to West Point or been admitted: âHe never said he was admitted or even applied.â
âThis is what we have come to expect from Politico.â
Here is the full statement Watts provided to TheDCNF:
âDr Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit. In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He canât remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carsonâs performance as ROTC City Executive Officer.
He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors. They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission. There are âService Connectedâ nominations for stellar High School ROTC appointments. Again he was the top ROTC student in Detroit. I would argue strongly that an Appointment is indeed an amazing full scholarship. Having ran several Congressional Offices I am very familiar with the Nomination process.
Again though his Senior Commander was in touch with West Point and told Dr. Carson he could get in, Dr Carson did not seek admission.
The Politico story is an outright Lie. Dr. Carson as the leading ROTC student in Detroit was told by his Commanders that he could get an Appointment to the Academy. He never said he was admitted or even applied.
The campaign never âadmitted to anythingâ
This is what we have come to expect from Politico.â
Politico reporter Kyle Cheney, who has the byline on the Carson story, did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.
Typical for the MSM.
I suspected it involved a conversation and not an application.
Turns out the liar is Politico not Carson. Another embarrassing accusation for you to retract.
At the end of my twelfth grade I marched at the head of the Memorial Day parade. I felt so proud, my chest bursting with ribbons and braids of every kind. To make it more wonderful, We had important visitors that day. Two soldiers who had won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Viet Nam were present. More exciting to me, General William Westmoreland (very prominent in the Viet Nam war) attended with an impressive entourage. Afterward, Sgt. Hunt introduced me to General Westmoreland, and I had dinner with him and the Congressional Medal winners. Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point. I didnââ¬â¢t refuse the scholarship outright, but I let them know that a military career wasnââ¬â¢t where I saw myself going.
Well someone is lying. Either Carson or Politico...or both
So Mr. Kyle Cheney, at least one of you is lying. Which is it?
Liberal media lies, or rather *more* liberal media lies.
Again they tell us whom they fear. They really fear Dr. Carson.
Yep. I knew this would be the case.
Folks, when organizations like the POLLUTICO go after Republicans and ignore the blatant disregard for the law exhibited by Obama and other Demon Rat imps, this ought to send a signal to everyone claiming to be a conservative.
Trump, Carson, Cruz, etc. are all working, we believe, to make America great again, right? So let's not fall for the LameStream Media's manipulation.
Please.
Total fabrication on Politico’s end.
The fact that so many here buy Politico’s lie lock stock and barrel makes me think they probably believed the Dan Rather forgeries.
Ah... Good. I’m glad the campaign is giving Pollutico a broadside on that one.
Hit them back for their lies, Politico is obviously chock full of racists.
It really doesn’t matter if it is a lie or not.
See the main thread. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3357149/posts
The point is - FReepers believe he lied and have (with the rest of the media) thrown the good doctor under the bus.
Nobody knee-jerks like FReepers. We eat our own at the drop of the hat.
Ben is playing defense. Not gonna work
Carson apparently wrote in his book that he was accepted to West Point. That is BS.
All Politico did was show that the Westmoreland visit was not Memorial Day but February.
My questions are:
Who was pulling out Westmoreland’s daily schedules of almost 50 years ago for Politico?
Who was pulling up applications to the school of almost 50 years ago for Politico?
It’s what I figured. He was a brilliant, scholarly, black kid from inner city Detroit and in JROTC, and he met Westmoreland. I’ve no doubt that the general would have offered help for him to get into West Point. Westmoreland was a graduate himself.
It’s the metric we should use to tell the FReepers from the wannabes.
