He could deliver a line.
“Big John: If you two wanna turn yourselves into a greasy spot on a country road somewhere, go right ahead. I don’t give a shit and I don’t think anybody else does, regardless what they say to your face. But you two monkeys are not going to do it on my racetrack. Now y’all heard of a “Japanese Inspection?” Japanese Inpsection, you see, when the Japs get in a load of lettuce they’re not sure they wanna let in the country, why they’ll just let it sit there on the dock ‘til they get good and ready to look at. But then of course, it’s all gone rotten... ain’t nothing left to inspect. You see, lettuce is a perishable item... like you two monkeys. You trade paint one more time, you so much as touch, I’m gonna Black Flag the two of you, and take apart your racecars for three-hundred laps. Then, if you pass inspection and you put your cars back together, I might let you back into the race.”
I believe that had Senator Thompson declared himself for president sooner in 2007 he might have won the Republican nomination and saved us from Obama. May his soul rest in peace.
Oh my. I really loved Fred Thompson. I was a Fredhead, along with a lot of freepers. I voted for him in Florida’s primary. He’d call in to Mark’s show and they’d have THE most interesting and informative chats. Fred was funny, irreverent and really loved America. He worried about us, about how the Constitution was being shredded. He was a treasure.
Go with God, Fred...
Same here.
Same here. He’ll be missed.
RIP
He was a good man.
So was I. I wrote him in to avoid voting for Romney. I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Romney.
He knew how to communicate. This may explain the knock on him at the time: “No fire in the belly.”
Translated: “He was sick, and not telling anyone.”
Sad to see this. Thoughts and prayers for the family. RIP
He was pretty good in the film "No Way Out" with Kevin Costner.
If you've never seen it, I strongly recommend it. It's a CIA spy thriller. Very good.
RIP Fred Thompson :(
He had a weak speech (supposedly) and the Reagan/Lincoln dinner in California and he never recovered from that.
Too bad,he was top 3 and moving up before that.
Ping
RIP Fred.
Very under-rated thriller.
He was ill (with cancer) when he ran for President and it cost him the election. He was zapped of energy and lost that "fire in his belly".
He bounced back fairly well to have a few more quality years.
I like him a lot.....RIP.
Hunt for Red October. Red Storm Rising has not been made into a movie. A shame to. Good book based on Harpoon naval simulation game.
RIP, Senator.
Prayers up
