We have discussed the potential for MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense Systems) being used against passenger planes, specifically in the North Africa region, aimid these pages for over 4 years.
Did it just happen? and would they even tell us if it did?

Might have been another type missile but probably not a MANPAD. The airliner was at 31,000 feet altitude and the MANPAD only will go to 15,000 feet.

None of the missiles in that chart are even close to “man-portable”. Also, MANPADs don’t have enough range to hit an airliner at cruise altitude.
If ISIS managed to get their hands on a real SAM launcher, and somehow figured out how to operate it correctly, then certainly they could have knocked a plane from the sky at 31000 ft, but that’s a whole different ball of wax from having MANPADs.

At this point is it likely any of the governments or their news whores would tell us the truth about altitude, black boxes, cargo, passenger manifests or basically anything? It is either all trustworthy and true or all suspect. Truth cannot be cherry-picked and with the current administration and the fact that the American Congress had to hold hearings to try and get at the truth of events in the Middle east is why everything is suspect.
