A Russian airliner has crashed in central Sinai with more than 200 people on board, the office of Egypt's prime minister has confirmed.
The Airbus A-321 had just left the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, bound for the Russian city of St Petersburg.
Wreckage of the plane has been found in the Hassana area and bodies removed. An official described a "tragic scene".
Flight KGL9268 disappeared from radar screens when travelling at 9,500m (31,000ft), Egyptian officials said.

Thanks, that’s a different shot than here:

May have just been another Russian aviation success story:

Site is difficult to read with all the stuff going on, but it seems to be citing US mil AA, not Russian which is all over the ME. Don’t know if ISIS captured US gear in Iraq which was transferred to the Sinai. Seems unlikely, as stuff seems to go south to north, not the other way around.
Very doubtful that an ISIS offshoot in the Egyptian Sinai would be using US FIM-92A stingers (acquired how?), when so much captured Libyan gear passed through the area.
Also unlikely that the Russians would be able to mount any kind of campaign against any group in the Sinai; Egypt would not like it, nor would Israel - see can of worms ...
“Obama, once again received his 3:00 a.m. phone call.”
Yes, and the conversation probably was as follows;
OBAMA: “Hello? This is Resident Obama” ....
ISIS Operative: “Yes, Hussein, dis is Sheikh Ali Akbar, conveyeeng our lateest operation for the glory of Alllah!”
OBAMA: “Yes, I trust themission was successful?”
ISIS Operative: “Oh, vehree much so, Allah be praised!”
OBAMA: “Did the weapons I sent perform as required?”
ISIS Operative: “Oh, yes, better than we even hoped! The missile made a direct hit on our enemy of god, Allah be praised!”
OBAMA: “Good! That’s very good news!” I’ll make arrangements to have one hundred more delivered through the usual channels. Unfortunately, your contact’s cover is compromised, so she will not be visiting with you.”
ISIS Operative: “Oh, dat ees too bad, I enjoyed working weet her (thinking “she’s more of a man dan you, infidel dog!”)
OBAMA: “Yes, well, we have made alternate arrangements, and we will be certain to get whatever you need as quickly as possible.”
ISIS Operative: “OK, tank you Hussein, we are happy to do business wit you.”
OBAMA: “The feeling is mutual, Sheikh Akbar - we’ll be in touch when the next shipment is ready for pick up. Allah be praised!”
ISIS Operative: Goodnight, Hussein.”
OBAMA: “Goodnight, Sheikh.”
Hopefully, he’ll send a return message - with a nuclear stamp. If this was ISIS, then Russia should totally obliterate the capital city of every country that supports them.
Are Stinger missiles able to reach 30,000 ft cruising altitude. Were other weapons capable of doing that likely to have come from Libya? Did Ghadaffi get gear like that from Russia? What irony if true.
London reporting a shootdown.
All bets are off
but it hit the ground mostly intact going 400 miles an hour. Yet plenty of wreckage and bodies - nothing “vaporized” like Flight 93. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It looks like the A/C did not crash going straight in, may have been in a flat spin or under a 45 degree angle to the ground. No way that crash debris indicates a vertical crash at 400 mph.It could have been an explosive decompression that the pilot tried unsuccessfully to recover from.
Shoulder launched “stingers” (manpads) of US origin maybe. Russian definitely not.
Ghadaffi once had SAMs able to go that high - but were truck or fixed mounted installations, not man-portable; don’t know which designation, but were launched at an SR-71, but were too slow to catch up ...
Best weapon I could find which was in Libya and could have been smuggled to Sinai was the Russian Igla-S or SA-24 which can go to 19,600 feet. There are mountains in that area so they could have gained another 2-3000 feet, which, if the plane was not yet at cruising height, could have been taken it out.
If, maybe, perhaps ... too many variables to say for sure, except that reports say the plane wreck looked like it was hit by a missile.
Not much new information this morning other than:
In Russia, the wife of the plane’s co-pilot, Sergei Trukhachev, said her husband had complained about the plane’s condition.
Natalya Trukhacheva told state-controlled NTV that their daughter had called her father before the flight left Sharm el-Sheikh.
“He complained before the flight that the technical condition of the aircraft left much to be desired,” she said.

Actually some new information:
RT 15 minutes ago
VIDEO: Aerial footage of Russian #7K9268 A321 crash site https://youtu.be/Enb4soLA2Tw
Looks like this aircraft might have had serious INTERNAL structural cracks. Aircraft was 'repaired' years ago due to a tail hit upon landing but INTERNAL cracks were still present and led to a break-up.
IMO, aircraft FIRST lost its tail, including its tail wings and rudder. It's game over at that point.
IMO, tail broke off in flight due to serious internal cracks.

No deep impact craters seems odd.
The crawl on RT tonight said the Russians were saying the plane came apart at high altitude. Will be interesting to know what the two data recorders say. Does Egypt have them or does Russia? Good question. Egypt embarrassed by presence of ISIL rebels, Russia embarrassed by possible malfunction of their aircraft. Will we get the truth?
“According to the RAF Report the C-130 was flying at a low level, not 30,000 feet.”
Nope. I don’t believe that for a minute.
I flew in US and Aussie C-130s in Iraq. They corkscrewed in and out of the airports. It would make me sick. They flew at altitude. From the video their C-130 was above 15,000 easily.
No one flew under 15,000.
The insurgents used the unguided rocket attack from 2004 on. I watched one of those attacks made from right outside Camp Alpha (Babylon) the night Fallujah I kicked off. There was a nav beacon at the base the carrier aircraft were using. It was a pitch black night, overcast. Heard the aircraft and went outside. Saw the rockets go up, then heard an increasingly loud engine whine followed a brrrrrraaaappp. No more rockets. Bunch of dumbasses.
So the RAF lied in their official report?
IMO yes, they lied. Only helicopters flew below 15,000.
The Telegraph reporting: “EXTERNAL IMPACT” now cited as cause:
Also, air crew not paid in 2 months (Life in Putin’s Playground).
