Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)79% told a nationwide audience in Wednesdayâs CNBC Republican presidential debate that companies are importing foreign graduates because American college grads just canât do the work.
The claim came when CNBCâs John Hardwood asked Rubio if he was undercutting American professionals by supporting a bill to let companies import more foreign temporary H-1B âguest workersâ for white-collar jobs. Rubio evaded the question by blaming Americansâ supposed lack of skills.
âWe need to get back to training people in this country to do the jobs of the 21st century⦠The best way to close this gap is to modernize higher education so Americans have the skills for those jobs,â Rubio claimed. The âideal scenario is to train Americans to do the work, so we donât have to rely on people from abroad,â Rubio declared.

I certainly hope this communist pissant makes this his campaign slogan.
If not, we should. Every day, every venue.
Exactly, and he has to be called out on this. With conviction.
This amnesty whore is getting his. Screw all the rest of you.
This article and discussion is not about those students in other fields. It is about Americans with STEM degrees, compared to foreigners with similar degrees.
Then why do we graduate twice as many Americans with STEM degrees each year than find STEM jobs?
The reason so many foreign students are in the US now is because A) Our universities are held in high regard, and B)Our universities recruit foreign students for the higher tuition they pay.
You'll notice Dunbar referenced the shortcomings of inner-city high schools and students. And she made no mention of the many American citizens who have successfully completed the academic requirements for STEM degrees, and are highly competent in their fields.
One of the liberal complaints against the STEM sector has for years been that those fields are overwhelmingly (i.e. disproportionately) dominated by white males. That has been (or was previously) a function of academic and career choice and ability, rather than any racist or sexist plot.
However, to liberals, the disproportionate white male dominance in these previously high-paying fields was some sort of crime or social injustice that had to be "fixed". H1B visas is the fix.
Why are you attacking jennychase? She(?) points out an aspect of fraud in the system, and you ridicule her grammar? Or is it more than that... (doh!)
Require? Or want? Maybe Silicon Valley should move to, say, the Tennessee Valley.
“American college grads just canât do the work”?
Just one more reason to say F you Marco.

Again, F you Marco.
Hate to rain on everyone’s parade, but he may be more than half right on this. DH (PhD in Physics) worked for a contractor in the defense industry for 40 years before retiring in 2013. He hired and worked with young people. Sadly, recent American grads were entitled brats; couldn’t write at 6th grade level which is a problem when responding to RFPs, etc.; had no reasoning skills, and basically didn’t know the material. Many of these people had graduated with PhD degrees but shouldn’t have.
Foreign employees, even if educated in America, were better in every way. That’s a huge problem for America if foreigners are being hired in highly classified positions.
P.S. I don’t trust Rubio as far as I could throw him and he pretty much makes me sick.
The outsourcing company was even worse and still is.
Rubio is beyond help on this, I only hope Cruz comes around - because this is my personal bread and butter issue, because it is my job on the line. I don't ask for special treatment. I ask that the existing laws about abuse of H-1b be both enforced and strengthened to where H-1B is ONLY used to bring in truly gifted persons, not line workers.

Where is the evidence of her assertion? Maybe, just maybe, if we didn’t have the highest corporate tax rate in the world U.S. Corporations wouldn’t have to save as much money by hiring cheap foreign labor.
With all the welfare benefits available to the increasing number of gibmedats, foreign and domestic, we have more and more U.S. “workers” that don’t want to work. Liberalism is destroying much of this country. All the Rubio haters on this thread aren’t helping that.
Yep, 58,000,000 and counting. “How DARE you infringe on a woman’s right to choose, God!”
I’m more concerned with illegals
Great idea! At least the new hire will be present for all Senate votes.
Isn’t it nearly impossible to check degrees now? And oddly, it was our conservative Senator James Buckley who made that impossible with his educational privacy bill of c. 1975.
