Letter from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to NBC News (Feb Debate Suspended)
Republican National Committee ^ | October 30, 2015 | Reince Priebus

Posted on 10/30/2015 9:59:44 AM PDT by abb

Mr. Andrew Lack Chairman, NBC News 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, New York 10112

Dear Mr. Lack,

I write to inform you that pending further discussion between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and our presidential campaigns, we are suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016. The RNC’s sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for America’s future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.

The CNBC network is one of your media properties, and its handling of the debate was conducted in bad faith. We understand that NBC does not exercise full editorial control over CNBC’s journalistic approach. However, the network is an arm of your organization, and we need to ensure there is not a repeat performance.

CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on “the key issues that matter to all voters—job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.” That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case. Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.

While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of “gotcha” questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates’ policies and ideas.

I have tremendous respect for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. However, I also expect the media to host a substantive debate on consequential issues important to Americans. CNBC did not.

While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it.

I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch.

Sincerely,

Reince Priebus Chairman, Republican National Committee

Surprising. But the RNC knew the candidates wouldn’t show up.

That's pure political cow flop.

Trump has been slamming, and exposing this vile MSM since 6/15/2015 when he made his announcement speech. The MSM attacks on Trump have gone into the hundreds as the others are doing the best they can to play Trump and ride the Trump wave.

Get real.

OAN at Hillsdale, with Rush, Levin, Hannity, and/or Judge Napolitano asking the questions would be awesome to behold!

Does ANYONE trust Priebus?

Is this going to be a renegotiation to be a true debate or to try and reboot the attack the outsider theme.

(iow renegotiate to rehab jbush as the goal)

The candiates should do this direction and cut out Priebus entirely.

Someone lent Reince half a testicle.

I know, right? He is following Trump's lead and actually concerning himself with the terms of the contract.

I would not watch The Blaze if Extra Terrestrials were going to land at Beck’s studio and sit down for an interview. Beck is dead to me and most other conservatives.

nobody.

National Review’s continued involvement means all jeb all the time. National Review now is all GOPe.

This is just priebus trying to prevent candidates changing pro-establishment rules.

He might as well have written his letter on toilet paper.

As you know, but many here don’t, this has been all Trump calling the media dishonest everyday from the get go.

“Trump dishonest media”

I don’t buy the feigned surprise he showed on Hannity. You’ve gotta be blind, deaf, and dumb to not see what happened on Wednesday night coming. It’s astonishing how the candidates act so surprised.

WHAT DO THEY EXPECT FROM THE LEFTIST MEDIA???

Time for the Right to get their own news source and network and run their own show with or without RNC’s blessing.

“FINALLY the RNC grew a brain and realized that NBC is in the tank for the Democrat Party”
________________________________

Wish I could agree with you. About the brain thing...that their ineptness could be so benignly explained. Sadly, the RNC is not lacking a brain, they’re lacking principle of any sort, not just conservative principle. This letter, imho, is simply primitive survival instinct in action.

Imagine the ratings for debates hosted by Rush, Sean and Mark.

Sean loves the sound of his own voice to much. Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham, Hugh Hewitt, etc.. Would be infinitely better than Hannidioty.

If Sean is the moderator, will he get in his lines about about dirty air, dirty water, throwing granny over the cliff and food stamps? We can only hope.

Prebius is only doing this because he knows Trump and Cruz shine in the debates and JEB! always bombs out. This has nothing to do with taking a stand against media bais. He wants limit the exposure of the conservatives and try and save JEB! (if JEB! can make it to February).

jbush and his donors expected fractured and constant flux support for his opposition.

The GOPe problem is Trump’s support is now running deep (per the talking heads) coupled with carson’s squishy vote support limited to IA, over 50% of the vote is anti-GOPe solidly.

All I know is the DNC would NEVER allow a debate hosted by Sean Hannity and Mark Levin to moderate their debates, would never ever happen. They prepare the questions beforehand, notice the difference between an RNC debate and a Democrat Debate that was on CNN..softball questions compared to “Is your campaign a comic book strip” and “Can you do math”
