This issue briefly took centerstage at last night's debate, having garnered extra attention this week because one of the largest newspapers in Florida is calling on Marco Rubio -- who's not seeking re-election to the US Senate -- to resign, rather than as an absentee Senator. The very same newspaper, strangely enough, never went nuclear on a different Florida Senator's legislative delinquency while pursuing a presidential run.
But Bob Graham was a Democrat, whose voting record was more aligned with the Sun Sentinel's liberal editorial board -- and its publisher, a Graham donor. It's indisputable that Rubio has missed quite a few votes in the upper chamber while campaigning for the White House. Donald Trump has been slapping at him on the issue for weeks, with the Democratic National Committee and a pro-Hillary Clinton SuperPAC getting in on the action. Here's the fine print neither organization is eager to mention: Rubio has missed a lower percentage of votes at this stage of the current cycle than -- ta da! -- Sen. Barack Obama had at this point in 2007, plus his Senate career absentee rate is lower than Hillary Clinton's at the conclusion of her tenure. Rubio made reference to some of these numbers last evening, but here are the specifics...

Trump loves those Dem OppRes talking points doesn’t he?
Is the Senate really going to fall apart if Rubio misses some votes to campaign? Does Trump’s business fall apart if he’s not there every single day?
It’s a garbage argument only LIVs would love.
Rubio hit himself with the “I hate the Senate”. He should resign.
Yes. He should resign.
It’s nonsense. If he misses a vote where it is the difference between his team winning or losing, it is one thing. But that is not the case at all.
>>This is a legitimate issue. Opponents should go after Rubio on his duties and responsibilities as a Florida Senator.<<
Once you are elected it is like having a Teamster’s job — show up for work at your option/leisure.
Work is for chumps.
“Trump loves those Dem OppRes talking points doesnât he?”
Sounds remarkably like the same ones we used against Obama.
It isn’t an legitimate issue. Rubio just countered it by smacking Jeb on not taking it to McCain for the same thing.
If you are a senator, and run for president at the same time, then you are applying for a new position while sometimes still on the clock.
That’s right. Rubio has blown it, says he hates being in the senate. Maybe Rubio needs to try doing something other than politics.
legitimate = illegitimate
At least Trump is consistent. He said previously that he has turned over his business duties to others. So, unlike Rubio, he is not shirking his responsibilities.
Accusing the Hispanic of being lazy?
Why, that’s RAAAAAAAACIST!
But it is a legitimate issue, IMHO.
I met Marco Rubio (briefly) at a Fourth of July parade in our small town, and since my wife thought he smelled really good, I’ve been following his campaign.
I think (as I’ve said before about the junior Senator from Texas) that restlessness after less than one term in the Senate is a bad sign.
Both Rubio and Krispy Kreme spent the night before the parade lakeside with you-know-who, the GOPe may try to put Rubio over on us before going back to the White Horse Prophecy man - but I personally believe that when Jeb drops out (and he’s hating this, obviously, should be soon) that Mitt will announce his availability to save the party.
Even the most Rove-captivated GOPe people must see that Marco Rubio is spectacularly unqualified to be President.
Mitt needs t stay home.
Cruz has missed quite a few votes as well.

Is anyone complaining about that?
He first has an obligation to his constituents to show up to work. He doesn’t show up to work and that is unacceptable.
You’re right.
That was a typo on my part.
Really? I didn’t know that. Yes, they should be complaining about him too.
:)
And, if you do that in the private sector and get caught - you get canned. I can’t believe people think this is okay - it isn’t.
