Trump: US needs 'better deal' before approving Keystone pipeline

Donald Trump says the United States needs a “better deal” from the developer of the Keystone XL oil pipeline before the project is approved.

At a Tuesday rally in Iowa, the GOP presidential front-runner complained that the United States is “not really getting anything” in return for the controversial project, which President Obama is considering whether to approve seven years after TransCanada Corp. first applied to build it, the Toronto Star reported.

The new position on Keystone contrasts with Trump’s earlier comments that he would approve the Canada-to-Texas pipeline immediately upon taking office, similar to his Republican rivals.

If he can get it...fine. You have to try different things. Canada has always been a friend. Obama has made them an enemy.

What “deal” is needed?

A more secure source of energy from a better neighbor than importing from Venezuela.

More jobs. A permanent increase in our infrastructure.

Why does the Feds need to find more to skim from private companies?

Maybe Trump using reverse psychology. Point it out as a “Bad” deal for America and Hillary and Obama will automatically rush to sign on to it. Tee Hee!

Apparently, you missed his rally last night. He said he wold ask for a percentage for allowing them to build the pipeline. More money in the national coffers to pay down this tremendous debt the past 2 administrations have foisted upon us. (my words - not Trumps)

At the rally last night he said he’d do both. Approve the pipeline because it would create a lot of jobs and also look for a better alternative.

It should be pass or fail, not a question of what the feds can get away with skimming from select private industries.

Treat all the businesses the same. Not say those pipelines are fine as they are, but I need some kickbacks from you.

Trump is looking out for America, who has done that for a while?

The people since GWHB have only looked out for themselves, to see how much money they can get into their own pockets...

I find it refreshing to see someone that can make America earn some money for once...

He said he wold ask for a percentage for allowing them to build the pipeline.

And why would the feds be allowed to get a percentage from this pipeline when other pipelines, rail and road shipments don't pay it?

I can tell you aren’t a business person. This isn’t a kickback, but the pipeline would be on American soil, and we should get something for the gas that will flow from Canada.

And maybe that’s why our deficit is over 19 trillion dollars.

Because Trump believes there should be an active role of Big Government.

Sounds like extortion to me. Canadian companies are extracting the oil. Canadian companies are building the pipeline. But Trump wants a piece of the action.

Should Alaska charge the oil companies ten or fifteen or twenty percent for allowing them to ship their oil through the pipeline they built in the state?

Unbelievable.

Really.

The American Government needs to collect money for commerce that flows into this country?

And this is what passes for liberty these days.

You're blaming the deficit on the government not collecting enough fees on international business transactions?

I've only worked in the oil/gas industry for a couple decades, mostly pipelines.

Where in the constitution does the federal government get to pick and chose different projects to apply different fees and regulations?

One set of rules for all. If there is import duties, then apply them to all.

The government doesn't get a royalty from the use of private land by private business.
