Pathetic. But whatever it takes.
There are some very powerful precharged pnuematics but they are so expensive that I consider them gimmicks. They will kill a buffalo tho.
My most powerful one is an RWS Diana model 48 in .177. It will shoot the standard pellets such as the RWS hobby or meisterkugeln at close to 1200 fps and that really is pretty strong.
I think the little Daisy model 880 which will pump up to around 850fps if you pump it a couple of pumps more than they recommend. They only cost $34 at Wal-Mart and that includes a scope. They can be extremely accurate. The biggest bargain in airguns to me.
Honestly, I’ve only fired the sucker a couple of times and it was loud as hell getting the grease out of the chamber. There is a guy in the UK who uses a .22 air and could probably say more as I’ve not used my for hunting just yet.
If you want to sew his vids in YT....type in ‘air rifle, squirrel hunting’. For some reason my tablet won’t allow me to post.
He is an incredible marksman.
I regularly harvested squirrels with one shot with the old Beeman’s Silver Jets and the trusty Sheridan.
“You could put an eye out with that thing! “
Lens caps on the scope!?
Obviously a posed shot for the news photographer, who was too clueless to ask her to take off the lens cap.
Read up on Lewis & Clark's air rifle . Interesting.
Can anybody recommend a good entry level air rifle that will have enough power for squirrel mostly and has a scope attachment?
I can go single spring or multiple pump style.
Why sure it was posed but she should have removed it with out being asked to. Then again, no one else has noticed it so no harm, no foul I suppose.
The Daisy 880 in .177 is the gun for you. It comes with a scope for only $34.86. The scope is not a very good one optically but it does work.
Most of those lens caps are see through. You take them off usually but you can use the scope with them on.
It all depends on how much you wish to spend.
I have heard reasonably good things about the Gamo Silent Cat .177. It is about $130 with scope.
The pellets run around a penny each. I recommend pellets of about 8 grains for a .177 for squirrel hunting, with max range of about 75-100 feet for this rifle.
YMMV

Reporters have a lot of power in these situations. Most people will just try to be helpful. It takes a strong will to go against the flow. I think that it would have been better for her to remove it as well, but I am sympathetic to someone who is not used to dealing with a clueless press.
That is a great looking gun!
The do make lens caps like that which are transparent with amber or red filter tint.
If you decide to get a Gamo “Silent Cat”, be sure to get the one with the cat on the box and SAT printed on it. Do not pick up the one with the squirrel on the box. It is the old model. The new model is the same price, but has a much improved trigger.
I’ve got a sweet Daystate AirWolf .22 PCP. It has a 10 round magazine, a suppressor to keep the neighbors guessing, and can easily spit out about 70 shots in between air fill-ups with pinpoint accuracy. I shoot gophers in the head at 50 yards when they dare to poke up in my lawn. While initially very expensive to purchase the rifle, scope & scuba tank accessory, pellets are cheap, and so is air! I use it to teach my boys proper scope usage, breathing technique, and how to stalk game - in our backyard. Its wonderful for that, and not at all a Wally World “BB gun” (tsk, tsk). I recommend you check out this place if you are in the market for a premium air rifle local to Arizona or via mail order. http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/
22s from a long rifled barrel are a lot kore deadly than from a short barrel handgun. Unless you are in very close range.
22s do most damage bouncing around internally.
