Basically, it's full of crap. Apparently, they have two issues with FR. One is that a user (a long-time user not a hacker) posted a link to an image that (unknown to him) resides on a site google has registered in their database as a malware site. We've pulled the post and notified google. Have no idea when they'll stop flagging us.
The other is that we have links to aim.org. NSS. Aim is a conservative site. Have no idea how many, but I'm sure we've had hundreds or even thousands of links posted to aim.org. We're not going to pull them.
Why google is apparently randomly flagging unrelated threads on FR I have no idea. Your guess is good as mine.
But it's not just google Chrome. Any browser that relies on google's database is doing this.
If you want to stop these erroneous and obnoxious warning messages immediately, you can set a browser option to ignore such warnings. Your virus protection software will catch any real viruses.
Thank you all very much for notifying me. I've received dozens and dozens of these already. Sorry, cannot answer each one individually.
The expert left his desk, walked down the corridor to a gray gun-metal door. Punching a combination into the door lock and having his retina scanned, he walked through the door from the bowels of the Democratic National Committee....
...into the bowels of the Republican National Committee.
aim.org is Accuracy in Media, a non-profit dedicated to exposing Leftwing bias in the media.
FU Google!
Thanks Jim. I didn’t have any problems, but it’s good to know you are on top of things.
Hey, I’ll brave malware alerts for Trump. Heh heh heh...
One has to be pondering Google right now anyway when it come to Conservative sites.
If we’re talking trust issues, I’m a lot more confident of Free Republic’s leadership that I am Google’s.
Thanks Jim.
They can KAOAs...
I'd hold out for a unicorn
preferably one that poops skittles...
I hope this doesn’t have anything to do with the Huge Manatee. He is as much a part of Free Republic as anyone.
Just one more reason to fully fund Free Republic and end this fund raiser.
Right. Now.
Did google flag any lib sites? Who axed them to harrass us?
Thanks Jim
I use edge with win 10... No issues
Same here. I couldn’t figure out what the problem was because it wasn’t showing up on Pale Moon.
Thanks much for the update, Jim. Google can also KMA and I’m sure many FReepers feel the same.
Can anyone walk me through how to do this on Chrome? And IE?
In Chrome click the hamburger dropdown menu, click settings, scroll down to show advanced settings and click. Under privacy uncheck “Protect you and your device from dangerous sites. Worked for me.
Just hit details on the orange screen (bottom left) and select the option that lets you continue on to FR.
Unchecking the setting you describe can leave you vulnerable to real threats.
What action can you recommend for Safari users, Swordmaker?
I'll guess that it's not AIM, but perhaps an advertising aggregator that AIM uses.
There have been recent cases where malware has been sneaked into an advertising aggregator, and all the sites using it turned into a vector for malware.
The sites are actually innocent, and the advertising aggregator is only guilty in now vetting the sneaky advertiser more carefully.
However, I'll throw in a recommendation for the AdBlock extension. It's available on both Chrome and Firefox. You won't see ads from the aggregators at all -- malicious, benign, or just annoying.
Dontcha love Autocorrect?
