Regarding Google's malware database and malware warnings on FR
October 27, 2015 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 10/27/2015 5:21:09 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Basically, it's full of crap. Apparently, they have two issues with FR. One is that a user (a long-time user not a hacker) posted a link to an image that (unknown to him) resides on a site google has registered in their database as a malware site. We've pulled the post and notified google. Have no idea when they'll stop flagging us.

The other is that we have links to aim.org. NSS. Aim is a conservative site. Have no idea how many, but I'm sure we've had hundreds or even thousands of links posted to aim.org. We're not going to pull them.

Why google is apparently randomly flagging unrelated threads on FR I have no idea. Your guess is good as mine.

But it's not just google Chrome. Any browser that relies on google's database is doing this.

If you want to stop these erroneous and obnoxious warning messages immediately, you can set a browser option to ignore such warnings. Your virus protection software will catch any real viruses.

Thank you all very much for notifying me. I've received dozens and dozens of these already. Sorry, cannot answer each one individually.

Ghostery +1.

I’m using Ghostery to block trackers, including Google Analytics and I’ve never seen these warnings.

Google Analytics can’t report my browsing so it can’t ‘inform’ my browser I’m on a flagged site.

RE: "I’ve never seen these warnings."

Yes FReepers can avoid the warnings or just ignore the harassment. Meanwhile far too often any time anyone else runs across a www.freerepublic.com site they will be scared away.

I posted above two examples where two FR threads came out number one and two on a google search.

Data directly from FBI and DoJ refutes the race grievance industry, the Obama-Holder demagogues, and the MSM employee lies about crime.

Data directly from and with links directly to the FBI and DoJ sites. No aim.com links and no links other than federal government sites.

After several months both FR threads are now marked as "dangerous" as of yesterday.

“After several months both FR threads are now marked as “dangerous” as of yesterday.”

Truth is a weapon against deceit.

For every person who heeds Google’s warning 2 will ignore it and discover the truth.

Unless websense hits you (another blocking system).

you see something like this:
Access to freerepublic.com/focus/news is blocked...

Category: Spyware / Malicious Sites

They are blocking freerepublic.com/focus/news

It’s political, Jim. They are preventing new people from checking out FR.

I got the malware alert after posting a comment to the transgender feminist Bruce Jenner thread. Thought I ran into some malware. Good to know what’s really going on. Thanks for posting.

Frankly, I'm not worried about anything. . . there's not much that could get through OS X's built-in protections without warning the user, not with the pop-up you're seeing on FR windows, but a system warning about downloading something.

I also have a great deal of confidence that JR and his staff will find the problem links that are creating this issue and remove them, request a resurveyed from Google, which will remove the warning and all will be well in Freepworld again. It's just going to take some time to locate them.

Yes, but have you seen
looks like google is flagging all posts linked to aim.org.

We’re not going to pull these. Google can KMA.

It looks like a case may be developing where Safari’s warnings are becoming spam.

What do you expect from a bunch of damn progressives?

Too bad you can’t sue the bastards.

I doubt they are pulling this crap by accident.

> Interesting. at least there is some rationale - weak though it may be - for why this happened. My first reaction was it was a tactic employed by liberals in some way to trash Free Republic

if it starts happening to other conservative websites it might be more than that. Operation Net Neutrality you know...

The way to get to companies like Google is for FR, AIM and other Conservative groups and their leaders to buy some of their stock.

Not a lot, just enough to both sue under the auspices of being shareholders AND show up at shareholder meetings and confront Google leadership.

That is absolutely not Net Neutrality.

Net Neutrality wants to make a law that internet must stay as it was 5 years ago. Those who support it are afraid that some content providers may be blocked and demand the system where “I paid for internet and pipes must give me every internet packet from the site I want at same speed as they would give from any other site”.

I am no longer a supprter of Net Neutrality, but for other reasons.

Whenever the government uses terms like neutrality and equality I know it always means the opposite. They just want to take those things from you and hand it to the other government designated and created special class.
