Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, in defending against criticisms of his relaxed demeanor on the campaign trail, opened up about his past "volatile" behavior during an interview that aired Sunday.
"I have plenty of energy. But, you know, I am soft-spoken. I do have a tendency to be relaxed. I wasn't always like that. There was a time when I was, you know, very volatile," Carson told NBC News. "But, you know, I changed."
The retired neurosurgeon went on to explain that "as a teenager, I would go after people with rocks, and bricks, and baseball bats, and hammers." He also spoke about the time, at 14 years old, when he "tried to stab someone" -- a well-known story of Carson attacking a friend during an argument over preferred radio stations. He missed: the knife hit the teenager's belt buckle and snapped.

I do want a street fighter in the White House.
He needs a different type of skills though.
WTF? Is he going for street cred? Because if not, he just disqualified himself.
Pretty sure this is only news to those who have not read his books.
Totally agree! There is no one in our family history who has ever tried to stab someone . . at any age. There has always been something about him that I didn’t trust . . . . .
GOPe strategy: knock off the candidates one by one, until only Trump and Jeb are left.
Then appeal to the “reasonableness” of the voters, to support Jeb (who may have acquired enough convention votes, one way or another, to win the nomination).
Recall what was done to Herman Cain.
Guy creeps me out.
I feel deep down that Carson would make a horrible president.
Hmm, I wonder how many people in the US have not read Ben Carson’s books...
Ok, that’s not something to put on your resume.
He was 14 years old.
He’s told the story before, losing his temper, realizing that he could have killed his friend, and then choosing to take a fundamentally different direction with his life.
I’m not convinced Carson has what it takes to be President, but his personal story is inspirational.
I don’t need a surgeon. I need a leader.
When some Lefty Demrat gives us trouble after Carson is elected handan say, “how’d you like this hammer upside your head?”.
We will get a lot done.
Seriously, people trying to vilify and demean Carson are not conservative and suspect.
Seems to me more like Carson telling us that we shouldn’t be fooled by what we see, that he could go bat shit crazy any time!
Not to mention attacking his mother with a hammer.
Guess this explains why Gentle Ben said he would not have shot the Gentle Giant, Michael Brown.
Always trust your instincts. Yours appear to be spot on.
Probably sarcasm, right?
Whatever he did at age 14, he went on to become the first and only surgeon to successfully separate Siamese twins joined at the head.
He had to create that surgery from scratch in advance.
Just wow. The man is brilliant no matter what anyone here thinks.
I plan to vote for whomever keeps us from having the hildebeast at this point. An FYI. They are all awesome by comparison.
The wounded surgeon plies the steel
That questions the distempered part.
Where does all that stored up rage go to? Is the big question. Carson is the “most Trojan” or most mysterious of all the high polling candidates. I still don’t really feel that I know him. What I do know is suited for a specific skill set, that being brain surgery, but not for the world stage, which is far less predictable and orderly than an operating theater.
GOpe? What did they have ventriloquist behind Carson making those words come out of his mouth?
Good grief! Only CBS would blab that story for hits. The COMPLEX intends to bury all conservative candidates until the complex/establishment candidate gets his free pass, and is the only one left standing. AGAIN.
