Gohmert: Newt Gingrich And Jim Demint Pressured House Freedom Caucus To Back Paul Ryan For Speaker
One America News ^ | Oct 23 2015 | Matt Schuck

Congressman Paul Ryan has received enough support from the House Freedom Caucus to secure his nomination for Speaker of the House, and he may have gained some of the support from conservative efforts going on behind-the-scenes.

The House Freedom Caucus, a small but fierce group of conservatives, succeeded in their efforts to oust John Boehner from Speaker of the House, but scrambled to find a nominee for Speaker that would satisfy their list of demands and rule changes to the Republican Conference.

The group initially endorsed Florida Representative Daniel Webster; however, a closed-door meeting pushed them into supporting Congressman Paul Ryan, a person that they saw as only an extension of Boehner.

Texas Congressman Louis Gohmert told One America News that some very familiar names pressured members of the House Freedom Caucus to rethink who they would endorse for Speaker.

“Promises were made and as I understand it, our friend Senator Jim DeMint, now head of the Heritage Foundation was making calls persuading…really shocked me. I don’t guess I was so surprised that Newt Gingrich was making calls behind the scenes to Freedom Caucus members to tell them, ‘you gotta cave and go with Paul,’” Gohmert said.

Gohmert told One America News that he was most shocked that these conservative officials were backing Ryan, given his track record with some conservatives.

“I was really surprised that the head of the Heritage Foundation, Jim DeMint was making calls telling conservatives to back off their conservatism and back the guy for Speaker that doesn’t just have a D, he has an F under the Conservative Review analysis,” Gohmert said.

Somewhere or someone, I believe from the House Freedom Caucus said this shouldn't be about personality but process. If Ryan is claiming he'll restore even part of the normal process that has been missing under Bohner why not give it a try, especially if Bohners is going to stay until a replacement is chosen.

Ryan would never get my vote. But Rome is burning, Jeb and the establishment are being schooled by another anti-DC groundswell. We'll find out soon enough about Ryan, but this whole exercise was about showing Bohner the door.

Puts a different face on it with Newt and Jim backing Ryan.

I guess I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best until the worst becomes more obvious - it's the new American Way.....

If true....that sucking sound is money disappearing.

I didn't know that things drying up made sounds.

"What's that sucking sound?"

"That's your funding running dry, Senator."

>> the story about Newt asking his wife for a divorce while she was on her deathbed is a myth <<

Yep, especially since she wasn’t even dying!

Let’s be realistic. Ryan is as close to a real conservative Speaker as the the GOP caucus was going to select. Until the Freedom Caucus has 200 members instead of 40 then that’s the way it’s going to be.

Ryan is very good on his issues. We need to persuade him--not by denunciation but by reason--to reconsider his stands on such issues as immigration.

It is unfortunate, but Jim DeMint is not the one to do that. While I liked him as a Senator--very much;--the way the Heritage Foundation handled the work of Jason Richwine was not only terrible. It was totally self-defeating.

We are absolutely doomed, unless we are willing to factually address ethnic issues. It does not need to be in a nasty tone; it does not need to be hostile to anyone. But Richwine's demonstration of significant differences between those flooding over the Southern border, and the mental traits of rooted Americans is not only a legitimate concern; it is an absolutely essential concern, if we have any intention of preserving the heritage of those who created the America with which we identify.

But again. My point is not to bash either Ryan or DeMint--or Newt for that matter. But we have to have the discussion, suggested. People create their culture; not culture people. A nation, tribe or community is a specific people, not a cloud-borne idea.

Compromise over where you locate a new post office; or the pay level of members of the armed forces; or the level of excise taxes; is ordinarily acceptable. You cannot compromise over whether to fund or not fund something that is unconstitutional, without being forsworn and disqualified, in an honorable society, from continuing to hold the office you have betrayed.

It is not nuclear science, is it? Compromisers do not lose, per se. But those who willingly accommodate the usurpation of power in the name of "compromise" should never be accepted by people who understand fundamental decency; never!

I wish Newt would run for Speaker. But failing that, his suggestion for the job will do. If Jesus Christ ran for the job and demonstrated his ability to walk on water, there’s a contingent who’d criticize him for not being able to swim.

What would you do with the millions of illegals who’ve been here for years?

Make them go home and use what they learned here (on our dime) to improve their own countries.

Good luck finding and deporting millions of people.

First, build a wall at the border.
Second, create a path to citizenship for those already here.

As they say, if rape is inevitable might as well relax and enjoy it.

Meanwhile, GO NEWT!

The last thing we need is 30 million more low skill, government dependent, mostly Democrat voting citizens.

The last thing.

Cut out their benefits and employment and we’ll get the vast majority out of here soon enough.

And not thanks on the sellout lobbyist Newt.

You know that’s not gonna happen.
Who provided the last amnesty?
Am I misremembering, or wasn’t it
President Reagan? Only he didn’t
build a wall, so here we are again.

I’ll align myself with Reagan and Newt.

And Reagan regretted what he said was his biggest mistake.

Why don’t you align yourself with that?

The lack of follow through had a lot to do with that.

Here's Gingrich ...

1986: One-time amnesty for illegal aliens In 1986 I voted for the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration bill because we were told it would solve the problem of massive illegal immigration. In his diaries, President Ronald Reagan said he was going to sign the bill because we had to regain control of our borders. The Simpson-Mazzoli bill contained three promises:

  1. The government would make a concerted effort to control the borders.
  2. An effective employer verification program would ensure that only legal workers were hired.
  3. One-time amnesty would be granted for people illegally in the United States.
All three promises were broken. The government has made no serious effort to control our borders. Employers continue knowingly to hire illegal immigrants without any real fear of punishment.

It was a mistake to do that deal, because it wasn’t reliable. Instead it was fairly reliably broken.

Gingrich was wrong on it too—and he’s been wrong on amnesty ever since.

Amnesty will happen, whether it solves the problem or not. In the meantime, whoever Newt thinks should be the Speaker is fine with me.
