SORRENTO -- Florida's first statewide black bear hunt in 21 years is set to begin Saturday morning, but that didn't stop hundreds of protesters from gathering across the Sunshine State to speak out against it.
With only hours until the beginning of the bear hunt, demonstrators gathered at Lake Eola Park on Friday weren't backing down.
"The people of Florida, so many of them, are just grief-stricken over this," said TV journalist and animal rights activist Jane Velez-Mitchell.
Over the last few years, bears have attacked three women in Seminole County and killed several people's pets. Some Seminole County residents say they are all for the statewide hunt because of those incidents.
In April 2014, a Longwood woman was attacked by a bear as she walked near Markham Road and Brackenhurst Place in Longwood four months after another Longwood woman was attacked while walking her dogs in her neighborhood off Markham Woods Road.
In December 2014, a woman walking her dog along Sherbourne Circle in Heathrow was bitten on the arm by a bear.
Earlier this year, a Longwood family says a bear killed their dog behind their home on Glen Ethel Lane.
About two weeks ago, a bear killed a small dog and attacked its owner in a mobile home park in Orange City.
But those against the bear hunt called it a cruel solution.
Black bear hunt?
Thass racist! Whites hunt bears too, yanno.
Choot ‘em! Choot ‘em!
;)
I think we should put one two of these bears in the backyards of each and everyone of them who protest. Have a way for them to stay in their backyards. See what happens then.
one two=one or two
Well to do white women are destroying this country with their votes. FReeper women excepted, of course.
why they hate their brothers, fathers, sons, uncles, dads and husbands and fiances so much is beyond me.
They live in a fake “you go girl” world and the solid reality of muslim rape and enslavement is right around the corner.
Not so much in America, because they are 1 percent, which is still too much, but obmama is trying to change that.
Plus, why print an article about bear hunting. No the bears will read this and skip town.
Typical protester type encounters real life black bear.
(hilariously irritating)

I'm beside myself in pain with the year-round open season you've declared on baby humans.
The bear hunt is a good thing . Bear numbers in the middle part of the state are way to high and the encounters are increasing .
These bears are becoming a real danger. Especially when mama bear brings the cubs into the neighborhood. Nothing is more dangerous than a mother bear.
What happened to “BLACK LIVES MATTER”? </sarc LOL
What happened to “BLACK LIVES MATTER”?
Get a few for me. Good hunting!
“These bears are becoming a real danger. Especially when mama bear brings the cubs into the neighborhood. Nothing is more dangerous than a mother bear.”
My husband walked out the front door a few years ago and says to me that “Hey the neighbors got a new horse and something is wrong because the horses are acting crazy” So I walked out to look and the “new horse” turned around , not a horse .
Some of my neighbors have had them destroy chain link dog kennels . We are way out in the country though .
“I’m going pepper spray you in the face, that is what I’m going do to you!” LOL!!!!! Mr. Bear was not having any of her B/S!!! She is an Obama voter for sure. What a hilarious video!

No we are NOT, you freakin’ LIAR! These rich bubbleheads think bears are cute, cuddly and adorable. Bears only appear that way. They WILL EAT YOU if they are hungry, so just stay in your gated community and do not EVER hug an actual bear!!! :)
I have said as much to people I grew up with.
Lost some FB friends (I grew up in a small town, you have to friend everybody). A few of the libs stuck around because “We know you Red.”
Over 200 bears have been hit by cars across the state each year for the past 3 years . Last year was close to 300 .
There are way to many bears
