She wants to stand in our camp, 2nd Amendment rights.

Yet she says, “I believe that all gun owners should have to pass a background check, .. I have no problem with reasonable waiting periods. I don’t understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons, and I think they should be more difficult, if not nearly impossible, to obtain.”

She doesn’t understand what the 2nd Amendment is really for.

“We should keep the harsh penalties for bringing guns into those places, but perhaps we should consider exempting armed guards where needed..”

She is confused.. Trying to set an agenda for gun control while patronizing the 2nd Amendment.

I believe that gun violence is a plague on our nation. I believe that all gun owners should have to pass a background check, and that a prior record of committing violent crimes is a very good reason for denying one's Constitutional right to own a gun. I have no problem with reasonable waiting periods. I don't understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons, and I think they should be more difficult, if not nearly impossible, to obtain.

Where's the barf alert?

They can care less about how many people die by gun. Leftists want gun confiscation for one reason only. They know that they will never be able to enforce their end game ideology on any armed population.

Wow, she owns a 20GA pump action shotgun and she’s an expert, apparently, on the 2A.

“... why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons...”

She needs to learn what an “assault weapon” really is...Just because the weapon LOOKS like a military weapon doesn’t make it an “assault weapon”...
An AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle, same as my Remington 7400
rifle with which I deer hunt. The “AR” does NOT stand for Assault Rifle...It stands for Armalite, the original manufacturer.
A real “assault weapon” is a selective fire weapon, with settings for either semi or fully automatic rate of fire.
Fully automatic weapons are only legal in this country to the general public.

Gun violence is neither good nor bad. For that matter violence is neither good not bad.

When the U.S. killed a bunch of ISIS members before they could behead their hostages, that was an example of gun violence which is a good thing.

I believe that gun violence is a plague on our nation.

EFF YOU -- no, it's not. VIOLENCE is a plague on ALL nations. It's no less violent for being a brick or a fist or a knife or a gallon of gasoline.

I believe that all gun owners should have to pass a background check

EFF YOU -- no, that is registration.

and that a prior record of committing violent crimes is a very good reason for denying one's Constitutional right to own a gun

EFF YOU -- I see the track you antigunners are on. First, felonies. Then, domestic violence misdemeanors. Then, ANY violent misdemeanor. Then, ANY misdemeanor.

I have no problem with reasonable waiting periods. I don't understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons, and I think they should be more difficult, if not nearly impossible, to obtain.

EFF YOU -- You shotgunners have been singing this song since the 1970's. The shotgunners can be worse than the anti's.

EFF YOU, you antigun s**t.

You're right... Mary Kate Cary doesn't get it.

Would Mary Kate Cary back ‘common sense’ changes to the first Amendment?

Reporters make ‘mistakes’ sometimes... What about allowing people quoted in stories to have the right to ‘prior restraint’... in short they can read the piece and decide if the quote is correct. If the quote is wrong, the story doesn't run. Seems simple to me... Mary should ask her editor to get behind this...

Surely the press is NOT in favor of misquoting government officials or citizens, right? Common sense says they should back this and other 'common sense' changes...

Hey Mary Kate Cary do you back common sense changes to the first amendment?

I don't understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons

That is your problem ditz. And your ignorance about firearms.

It is my right, that is all you need to understand.

It happens to be what I was trained to shoot. I am most comfortable with what I was trained to use, so why should I change?

Then you're an idiot, Mary. Learn something before you expect to be taken seriously on the topic.

She is confused..

You've got that right. Among other things, she doesn't understand that for many gun-grabbers, her 20 gauge shotgun is an "assault weapon", and should be prohibited.

First they came for the AR-15s, but I did not protest because I did not own an AR-15...

“We should keep the harsh penalties for bringing guns into those places, but perhaps we should consider exempting armed guards where needed..”

Obviously she's not aware of those "Gun Free Zone" signs. They keep people from carrying guns in to places that doesn't want them. Right? Right?

"I don't understand why anyone needs to own military-style assault weapons, and I think they should be more difficult, if not nearly impossible, to obtain."

Second amendment aside, I don't understand why anyone would want to ban military-style assault weapons, since they are almost never used in crimes.

(Or, actually I do understand -- liberal politicians must have recurrent nightmares that include scenes from the Storming of the Bastille.)

She also claims that the majority of people support universal background checks.

"Second amendment aside, I don't understand why anyone would want to ban military-style assault weapons, since they are almost never used in crimes."

Good point..

This is a typical FBI chart showing the types of guns used.

As you point out, assault weapons are almost non-existent.

Gun control freaks, if honest, would be going after handguns. But then, that would require honesty. Something that leftists liberal progressives seem to be short on.
