Ask yourself this question:

How much news coverage does Carson get that does not involve his rise in the polls? It’s a significantly smaller amount than you’d imagine he’d need in order to gain this much in the polls.

He’s being pushed to split the “anti-establishment” vote by the GOPe because Trump is the guy they want gone. They’re hoping he gains actual traction by giving him fake traction. Kind of like how the Kardashians are famous for being famous, Carson is gaining poll support because he’s gaining poll support.

As long as Trump and Carson are at 20% and higher, and John Ellis Bush stays in single digits, it doesn't matter. If John Ellis Bush finishes fifth in Iowa, fourth in New Hampshire, sixth in South Carolina,he ain't pickin' up nothin' on Super Tuesday.

You are selling Dr. Carson short. Here in Georgia, his people are there, in numbers. He's organized, he's financed, he is the inheritor of Huckabee's 2008 support. His race isn't a bad thing, but it isn't the first thing that most Carson supprters cite. It doesn't hurt that Cruz and Rubio are Hispanic or that Carly Fiorina has too many X chromosones, either. If he were white (unlike BHO), he'd still have a following.

Kasich was supposed to be the new golden boy after the first debate. He rather flopped.

Fiorina was supposed to be the new golden girl after the second debate. She rather dropped like a rock.

Rubio and Bush seem to be battling for 5th place. A bunch of others that few could name are battling for next-to-last, because none want to be in last place.

And there is the fact that Iowa has not been a very good predictor of future Republican nominees.

IIRC, excluding incumbent presidents, they have selected the person who went on to be president only one (1) time since about 1976.
