A 5-year-old boy has been mauled to death by two dogs at the home of a family friend in Southeast Texas.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the dogs attacked Tanner Smith on Sunday evening at the home in Vidor (VY'-dur). Tanner was taken to a hospital in Beaumont where he died.
Authorities say the boy and his mother were visiting a friend. The mother thought her friend's father was outside watching the boy. When the woman learned the father was not at home she went outside and found her injured son.

I had an interesting pit bull experience a few days ago. Went into a local gun store and this time there was a massive pit bull behind the counter. This thing stared at me from behind the counter as I walked in and I didnt think anything of it except it was exceptionally large and muscular. I was doing my usual walk around and since all the clerks were busy I was alone in a corner of the store. The pit comes around the corner staring at me with his hackles up and stops about 10 ft away. I get along fine with dogs and even had a pit bull mix as a child but this is not looking good. Out of the blue it lets out a single window rattling bark then walks away. I dont know what the freaking thing’s problem was but I decided it was a good time to leave. It would have at least been nice for someone to come and check what the commotion was about. I will steer clear of that place for awhile.
Interesting and well told!
See, thats just the way it happens.
Here I have a point:
Incredible moment lioness spares baby baboon after killing his mother
See baboons have nothing to fear from lions! Lions have been given a bad rap they are just big lovable fuzzy balls. Why if I was a baboon and a responsible pet owner I would welcome having one one as a pet.
You are smarter than this.
Depends on what you mean by "guard" dog. I doubt if he'd ever harm a burglar, but damned if one is going to get within fifty feet of the house without his alarm going off!
Pits are loyal, sweet, lovable dogs, until they decide to kill you or someone else.
Each and everyone of them should be put down. They were breed to be vicious fighters, it is part of their DNA. I have dogs and love them. Hell will freeze over twice before I have a pit.
Very sad.
Those are very thick animals, hard to pour, those viscous breeds.
They walk up to you, bark, and rattle your windows out?
“Look at ME. I’m a tuff PIT BULL.”
I take it back.
Thank you!
You spend days cleaning the wounds left on you 11 year old 30 pound corgi mix trying to save its right leg from being lost after and attack by a 60 pound pit you might have a different attitude. The only reason she didn’t die was because we had just left the house and was still with in about 12-15 feet of my pick up. I saw the pit charging after having knock down its owner in its attempt to get my Hope. I scooped her up so I could place her in the truck bed when the pit leap and clamped down on her rear right leg. Luckly I was still wearing my steel toed work boots I kecj the SOB as hard as I could and it let go I got Hope into the bed and then jumped in myself. The owner come running hysterical crying apologies and trying to regain control of her pit. I look a Hope and could see some blood but it was dark I couldn’t see much and frankly her hysterics was getting on my nerves and I was ready to go off on her, but I could also tell she was honestly upset so I just told her to get her dog home so I could take Hope into the house and see how bad she was hurt. Took her to the after hours VET and they wanted to put a drain in and keep her, but she was already so traumatized I did want to leave her so he stitched her up gave us some stuff shot her up with pain killer and antibiotics and give us instructions on treating the wound which we did religiously ever four hours. We took her to our regular Vet on Monday and he was still not sure and he had us bring her back the next day. He praised us and said as long as we kept it up it look like she would heal nicely and it did.
So don’t try and promote or defend your Thug breed with me. I carry now and I will be more than happy to put as many bullets as I can into any that should come after us again. In fact I promise you I will need to reload after I stop shooting.
But banning them, eradicating the breed -- WRONG way to go about it, with consequences MORE dangerous than the dogs.
re: “Post 30 confirms they had a history of attacking others, btw. OT rules apply.”
Ok, if the owner had let the dogs run free without restraint, then you would be correct.
But, is that what happened? Were the dogs off of the owner’s property? Was the property fenced?
Was the owner aware that there was an unsupervised 5 year old child that had access to these dogs or they to the child?
I’m not demeaning the tragedy of this event. It is horrible. I have three grown children and two three year old grandsons. I cannot imagine what the families and friends are going through.
That being said, I do not see that the owner violated the Old Testament rules concerning a dangerous animal. If the owner allowed the animals to roam free after having a history of attacking people, then you would have a point. But, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Even post 30 says the dogs dug “under the fence” to get out. Then, according to police, he properly restrained them. What that means I do not know, but unless there is more information given, I don’t see that the owner violated God’s laws. I think we need to be careful before passing the ultimate judgement in God’s name until you have ALL the facts.
The breed is inherently dangerous, it is common knowledge. To deny it is to deny reality that keeps, occurring again and again and again. The never ending streamof stories and horrible, nearly identical every time, re-occurring cases with this breed of dog.
