Feds dangle $12,000 bonus to firms that hire foreign students
The Washington Examiner ^ | 10/19/2015 | Paul Bedard

The Department of Homeland Security is readying a plan to expand a program that pays U.S. employers to hire foreign STEM students taught in America, a move that could end up punishing American college grads and even the elderly, according to an immigration think tank.

In pushing to allow more foreign students into the so-called "optional practical training program," DHS said that it will help businesses and colleges by keeping those foreign students in the U.S. following their American-taught science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM, curriculum.

But the Center for Immigration Studies said it will punish American STEM students competing for those same jobs. And, they added, in adjusting how the foreign students are categorized as employees, they get out of paying payroll taxes used to help fund programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Currently, the program urges companies to hire STEM students for a year. CIS said firms are paid up to $10,000 to participate. The new proposal, said CIS, is to add on another year and $2,000 in bonuses.

Where are the Republicans in this mess? That’s easy…in the hip pocket of corporations that would rather hire foreigners than our own children. Shame on you, GOPe!

Reason #137 to get rid of DHS and return the actual national-security functions to the departments of Defense (for overseas threats) and Justice (for domestic terrorism and other criminality).

Just a couple of question......What business is it for homeland security to engage in securing jobs for none Americans. And second what’s wrong with making sure Americans are first?

I remember reading some years ago that this was a problem for poor third world nations. They would send young students here, pay for their advanced educations with the expectation they would come home and use it to benefit their own countries, when these poor nations paid for these expensive educations, they asked the students to sign a pledge to return. Many of the students pledged to come back and then did everything they could to stay here. Now we are helping them dishonor their own countrymen who sacrificed to give them this advantage. This is awful, these people need to go home and take care of their own. These third world countries need their doctors, their engineers, their programmers, their teachers. This is wrong on so many levels!

No wonder Americans can’t find jobs.

This is part of a long term leftist government plan to reduce the demographic and societal dominance of traditional Americans (whites, Christians, Bitter Clingers) and increase the demographic and societal influence of browns, blacks, muslims, and other leftist victim groups.

The method being used to bring this “Fundamental Transformation” about is wealth redistribution.

The underlying theory is that reducing the earning power, income and wealth accumulation of the white middle class reduces their ability to remain independent, their ability to influence policy and elections, and their ability to effectively oppose leftist democrat party socialism.

There is another reason this program is insane which isn't mentioned often. I thank an agricultural college student from Botswana for pointing it out to me.

He told me that many promising students from third world countries are often sent to American and European universities at the expense of their governments or foundations with the specific idea of bringing back first world methods and knowledge to their home countries. Once they see and experience the first world lifestyle first hand, it is a serious temptation to abandon their sponsors and their commitment and just look out for themselves.

An extreme example is the dictator of Zimbabwe, who used his first class education to turn what once was the breadbasket of southern Africa into the basket case of southern Africa. More common are those who see the opportunity to work in America for a few years as an opportunity to earn more than they could in a lifetime back home. They tell themselves it is just an extension of their education which will be repaid when they go back home. Of course, few ever do.

So these programs are, in effect, not only robbing Americans but also the various countries to which their most promising students never return.

Long story short, they are exempt from paying SS and FICA taxes. Including the employer’s matching portion of those taxes. That is not going to add up to $12K in every case, but yeah, it’s money in the employer’s pocket that they would not have if they hired a citizen.

Your comments are apt. The lunacy you help expose is also, in part, connected with the now several generation old attack by Leftist pseudo-intellectuals on the very concept of a Nation, and one’s duties thereto. Ultimately one realizes that there is absolutely nothing really idealistic or altruistic in the machinations of the Left. They are a curse on every people on this earth.

Tell that to my son; graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering in May. After an unpaid internship and temp job, he’s finally landed something related to his field, but not necessarily what he thought he’d be doing.

Not as bad as what I saw from the Electrical and Computer Engineering gradate list; it read like a Shanghai phone book. We’ll pay to have them stay here for a few years, they will loot whatever knowledge they can from the company that hires them, and then take it back to China with them. Yes, we are paying China to do that.

I wonder if they will eventually be able to collect a SS check if they stay here long enough.

Exactly.

The so-called Department of Homeland Security needs to be defunded and abolished.

It’s nothing more than an un-american gestapo in it’s early stages of oppression.
