George W. Bush unleashes on Ted Cruz
Politico ^ | 10/19/15 | ELI STOKOLS

Inside a sleek Denver condominium, George W. Bush let a hundred donors to his brother’s campaign in on a secret. Of all the rival Republican candidates, there is one who gets under the former president’s skin, who he views as perhaps Jeb Bush’s most serious rival for the party’s nomination.

It isn’t Donald Trump, whose withering insults have sought to make Jeb pay a political price for his brother’s presidency. It also isn’t Marco Rubio, Jeb’s former understudy who now poses a serious threat to his establishment support.

It’s George W. Bush’s former employee — Ted Cruz.

“I just don’t like the guy,” Bush said Sunday night, according to conversations with more than half a dozen donors who attended the event.

One donor in the room said the former president had been offering mostly anodyne accounts of how the Bush family network views the current campaign and charming off-the-cuff jokes, until he launched into Cruz.

“I was like, ‘Holy shit, did he just say that?’” the donor said. “I remember looking around and seeing that other people were also looking around surprised.”

“The tenor of what he said about the other candidates was really pretty pleasant,” another donor said. “Until he got to Cruz.”

Bush took a harsh view of Cruz’s apparent alliance with Trump, who stood with the senator at a Capitol Hill rally last month in opposition to the Iran deal. While Trump, the current GOP poll leaders, has attacked most of his competitors in the 2016 field, he has avoided criticizing Cruz.

One donor, paraphrasing the former president’s comment in response to a broad question about how he viewed the primary race and the other Republican candidates, said: “He said he found it ‘opportunistic’ that Cruz was sucking up to Trump

I agree .. as I said on another thread; Ted and W have a history from their days in TX. It seems W kept wanting to do stuff which the Constitution does allow you to do .. and when (the Solicitor General for TX) objected .. they would have words.

I don’t know any real particulars, just comments from people in TX. However, it was also Cruz who went before the Supreme Court and argued Bush v. Gore, and won the election in 2000.

However, W and the rest of the Repub party seems to be under the impression that Cruz has no right to rain on their parade. I can understand that the Bush family was expecting Jeb to do better, and with Cruz (seeming to be in the way), I feel sorry for W having to contend with this issue.

But, there’s one thing I know about Cruz .. when it’s all over and Cruz is President, W and Cruz will be able to patch things up.

Re: Bush left nearly all of her political appointees in their positions. And he basically did the same thing when he got to DC.

Trump might have a point re: 9/11 Instead of cleaning out the Augean Stables when he assumed office, George W. Bush left many of the Clintonistas in place.

And what about that so-called "Jamie Garelick's wall" erected between our intelligence agencies that prevented the left hand from knowing what the right hand was doing.

Gorelick was the No. 2 official in the Clinton Justice Dept.

The Bush family has always been about enriching the Bush family, from Nazi collaborator Prescott on down.

“He said he found it ‘opportunistic’ that Cruz was sucking up to Trump

So following the Eleventh Commandment is now "sucking up"?

Ted Cruz has more conservatism in his little finger than the Bush family -- and Donald Trump, for that matter -- have in their entire bodies. Not criticizing someone is not equal to "sucking up".

The establishment hates Ted Cruz. There is no doubt about that. But for George W. Bush, a man who I have respect for as a human being if not as a conservative, to say such a thing is really too bad. He wouldn't criticize Barack Obama but he will criticize the last, best hope for the Republican Party.

A shame.

GHWB and GWB put on an excellent act—”patriotic American”—while in office. But the mask slipped a long, long time ago, unfortunately for Yeb. (The man who murdered Terri Schiavo.)

Sorry but this isn’t right...I’m not pulling for Cruz, but to have a former President say something like this is disgusting, and I thought better of GWB than this...not anymore, and I don’t care if his ‘little brother’ who cries all the time about being knocked around, he of all people should shut his mouth!!!

Ted was there, too, and gave an awesome speech. Yeb was late and when it was his turn people went for the doors. Friends said that Ted lit up the room. Huge ovation.

Speaking of “sucking up”, maybe someone could provide the link of Jeb giving Hillary a medal here awhile back.

I’m sure she deserved it for something or other.
