Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Donald Trump's campaign has been "immensely beneficial" to his own campaign but added that his supporters will soon turn to him as they become "more educated."
"I think Donald's campaign has been immensely beneficial for our campaign and the reason is, he's framed the central issue of the Republican primary as, who will stand up to Washington," [sic] Trump told "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd.
"Well, the natural follow up if that's the question is, who has actually stood up to Washington?" [sic] Trump continued, adding that he's the only one with the proven record of standing up to both Democrats and Republicans.
Cruz said that "as voters get more educated, study the candidates, listen to the candidates in person," conservatives are getting behind his candidacy.
The firebrand Texas senator has made few friends in Washington, even from his own party, with his no-compromise tactics that have on one occasion led to a government shutdown...
"You know others have gone out of their way to smack (Trump), I haven't," Cruz noted.

Oh really? Then way has Trump shown up at the debates with Ted Cruz?
So far Ted has been a failure in the fake debates.
Just once before, to my knowledge.
I would love to see a Cruz/Trump, Trump/Cruz ticket.
“You know others have gone out of their way to smack (Trump), I haven’t,” Cruz noted.
And vice versa I’ve noticed. They would make a great ticket.
Ted is my choice in spirit, Trump in the real world, with Cruz vp then pres for 8 more.
What Ted doesn't point out here, but I think knows ... is that while both will stand up to Washington, only Trump at this point in his life has enough experience and charisma, and hence Americans that will follow him, to actually turn that standing-up into moving-wasghington.
Patience Ted, ensure Trump's election, and in 8 years you will have both the brains and the power, not just the brains.
Cruz has been very active, using a quiet ground & pound campaign strategy while building up a significant support base. He’s kind of like a shark just lurking right beneath the surface, biding his time.
Trump has the energy and the mo. Ted is putting together the origination state by state. These two could team up. Taking Ted to the two spot. If that happens the Tea party has come a long way in 5 years. Also knocked out Cantor,Boner and Kevin Mc Carthy.
Give me a break. As if a candidate shouldn't suggest that voters will eventually break his or her way. Nothing Cruz is saying could even remotely be considered an attack, and there is a lot material he could use to cut Trump down to size considering "the Donald" isn't even a conservative.
Some of you Trump fanatics act as if he is some sort of Godking. Donald Trump is just a polished realityTV star, skilled at self promotion and duping right of center voters into believing he is some sort of conservative.
Cruz has to find a way to get up to the #2 slot in the polls. Then he may have a real shot at putting a dent or possibly even overtaking Trump. He will have to do superbly in the debates along with a good effective ground game. Tall order from where he is now but it can be done.
No, it isn’t Trump turning Cruz supporters against Cruz. It is Cruz supporters turning Trump supporters against Cruz with their nasty attitude.
Most will probably go to Carson at this point.
I like Cruz..I liked Walker and Perry too. But now it looks like Trump will get the nom...if he can keep his fat mouth shut...so let’s see how all this shakes out. Im of the opinion that the train has left the station for Cruz.
Bingo! Great post...
If Trump bails, Cruz gets my vote.
Otherwise, we’ll see.
It’s either that or Trump/Cruz have got some kind of plan. Actually I would think it is Trump/Cruz/Carson.
Just when you think you have Trump figured out, he does something new.
What a show!
I don’t think Trump ever said he is the only one going against the GOPe. But Cruz has the right to point out his own anti establishment credentials without attacking Trump.
At some point is time hopefully these two men will be the two top guys and they will have to be contrasting their views.
Only thing good for Ted doing this is the media will run with him versus Trump hoping that they will bump eachother off.
I don’t see either taking this negative.
Cruz knows he can’t get Trump voters going negative, if that worked Jindal, Walker, Paul, Fiorino, Jeb, and Perry wouldn’t have seen their polling numbers go into the toilet after attacking Trump
Ted thinks before he talks, I can’t see him making the same mistake.
People want civility and whomever attacks gets blamed.
Carson was smart to apologize and take back Trump remarks he made. Carson showed class and not only did his polling go up but his fund raising went up.
Obama has shown what mean and classless does to ones polling.
Not that at all.
People are looking at Trump going out there and fighting the fight, and taking the risks. Even Carson has done his share.
Then they see Cruz virtually out of arena. Letting these guys take the hits, make the big moves, and push the narrative.
In the end Cruz supporters are growing a bit impatient, and want to back the person that is doing the grunt work, not to kick him to the crub.
I think Cruz seems to think(?) Trump is a novelty that is just holding his seat for him. He cannot assume this just because he ranks higher on a most conservative check list.
‘No, it isnt Trump turning Cruz supporters against Cruz. It is Cruz supporters turning Trump supporters against Cruz with their nasty attitude.’
This is absolutely true.
“So far Ted has been a failure in the fake debates.”

Seems to me the moderators went out of their way to avoid him as much as possible. It’s hard to win a debate when moderators won’t let you talk.
