Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Donald Trump's campaign has been "immensely beneficial" to his own campaign but added that his supporters will soon turn to him as they become "more educated."
"I think Donald's campaign has been immensely beneficial for our campaign and the reason is, he's framed the central issue of the Republican primary as, who will stand up to Washington," [sic] Trump told "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd.
"Well, the natural follow up if that's the question is, who has actually stood up to Washington?" [sic] Trump continued, adding that he's the only one with the proven record of standing up to both Democrats and Republicans.
Cruz said that "as voters get more educated, study the candidates, listen to the candidates in person," conservatives are getting behind his candidacy.
The firebrand Texas senator has made few friends in Washington, even from his own party, with his no-compromise tactics that have on one occasion led to a government shutdown...
"You know others have gone out of their way to smack (Trump), I haven't," Cruz noted.

Keep hoping, but do not hold your breath! Trump needs your vote in November.
He’s delusional.
BTTT!
Keep hope alive for Cruz, but please do not hold your breath while doing so. Trump needs your vote in November.
Megyn Kelly, during her interview of Cruz, asked Cruz that since Trump had said all illegals would be deported, would he deport the illegals also. Cruz refused to answer the question repeatedly. So you can know that Cruz is not going to deport the illegals.
ALL the candidates other than Trump are pro-amnesty.
Since immigration is the main issue for the nation’s survival, Cruz will not get my support.
‘Ted is putting together the origination state by state.’ I’m not so sure about that——http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2015/10/17/im-going-to-say-something-nice-about-jeb-bush/, appears only 2 candidates are making the required effort in all 50 states to qualify on their respective ballots, Jeb and Donald. Time is running short in the early states.
That Cheap Labor Express and Big Donor Bankroll anchor will drown him.
Needs to be repeated. But I can't blame Cruz. He must go against his own conservative agenda because without those rich donors, Cruz would be out of the race faster than snow in July.“Why does everyone have to brandish the Trump name?”
Well, like it or not, “brandishing” the Trump name gets them press coverage. These guys are all trying to ride Trump’s coattails as much as they can. I think we on FR should start a pool as to when each of these 1%er’s is going to fold their tent!
Additionally, there’s ZERO way at all that we would be talking about actually securing the border if it were not for Trump.
He made it an issue. Cruz and the other GOPErs love to mouth the words but they’ve proven time and again they’re not serious about protecting America’s sovereignty. George W. Bush, Cruz’s mentor, signed a law saying to build a wall and then never did it.
Trump gets things done. The decrepit Beltway fake conservatives have promised us the moon for decades and have delivered jack squat. They didn’t get rid of Obamacare, they didn’t stop the leftist judges, they didn’t do a damned thing.
Cruz supporters haven’t figured out that he’s no different than McConnell. He’s just smart enough to blame his failures on someone else. The truth is that they’re all a pack of liars and they ALL need to be booted out.
Cruz has already begun moving left with TPA and has always been about destroying American jobs with his H1B fetish. The idea that there aren’t enough Americans to do technology jobs is complete bulls—t. Cruz is a corporatist who married a Goldman Sachs executive. That tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about him.
Trump builds things and gets the job done. Cruz just runs his mouth and gets slapped around by Obama and the media. Trump takes the punches and then slams back 3x harder. There hasn’t been anyone like that in the GOP since Reagan.
You can’t whine and complain the way that Cruz does. His entire voice and demeanor are of a nerdy kid trying to tell on the popular kids. No normal American will ever vote for him if he gets the nomination.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the lowest of the lower tier of candidates drop out. Who will their support go to? I honestly don’t know. Perhaps since their support is so low (Christie, Graham, Kasich etc) - the bottom 8 total 12.4 percentage points - it won’t matter much.
Bears repeating!
No chance of a yuge wall either.
Even if Trump doesn’t build the wall, he will do something big on the issue. Everyone else will do nothing.
“His entire voice and demeanor are of a nerdy kid trying to tell on the popular kids. “
I hadn’t thought of that but you’re right. I have noticed he has a nasal voice or something that isn’t authoritative but I hate to pick on someone for something they can’t help. but sadly looks, and audio, are what many low information voters look at.
Yes, Trump has smacked the MSM and it’s been delightful. If he can negotiate with NBC and win, he can take in China and Russia.
Why on earth would he choose Snarly Carly? Trump has huge support among women. Most people I know can’t stand Fiorina.
Bingo! You nailed it. Trump first four, then Cruz for eight.
Yup. That’s the ticket.
The press would love for everyone to misinterpret what Cruz said. Do not fall for it.
Cruz essentially said that Trump is educating the public about the corruption of the Washington Elites.
Either way works for me, but I do not see Trump taking VP unless he redefines the position.
The only problem with Ted’s theory is that he is not he second choice of Trump supporters. Carson is. Ted is also not the second choice of Carson supporters. Trump is.
So 7% to 28% or 33%.
Its just not going to happen.
