Now that the laughable "Documentary" Truth is opening in "select theaters," it's time to revisit events from one of the finest days in the History of Free Republic [and counter-revolutionary pajama journalism.] In the first of two articles, we reconsider Dan Rather and Mary Mapes preposterous expose .

The second article, which I'll post in an hour or two, is a follow-on penned by FR's own HARRY MACDOUGALD; the notorious FReeper, Buckhead.

If you were there, you'll never forget.

Wanted to post this the other day, but like many in the conservative cause, my life revolves around billable hours, so I didn't get to it until this evening. I'll excerpt the second part, your post on Powerline, in a little while...

Wasn’t there more wrong with the “memos” than just the font and subscripts? I seem to recall that the format wasn’t milspec (or what would be expected of a longtime military man) and that the content and even timeline made no sense.

While I was around to watch all this unfold...it’s a bit of a faint memory!

I haven’t seen Buckhead posting for a long time. I miss him—his posts were always interesting.

Please remind me what 60 Minutes can fabricate document to make a point on a story about George Bush, but an anti-Planned Parenthood group can not use stock footage to illustrate the butchery in the womb that Planned Parenthood does every day.

A nice, thorough article that includes a number of familiar points.

Those certainly were glory days for Freepers. I remember following the threads most of the night after the Rather debacle on TV. I even copied excerpts describing the proof of forgeries with MS Word fonts which I put on the bulletin board at work the next day.

Now it seems that once the stories on how many angels can dance on the head of pins are ignored, along with the whining about which rino doesn't meet some exact agenda, there's not nearly as much substance left.

Here's an update on the first weekend for "Truth" nationwide.

Hollywood whiffed again over the Halloween weekend as four new movies went largely ignored in favor of trick-or-treating. The "60 Minutes II" scandal drama "Truth," with Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford, expanding nationwide, and the horror comedy "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" added to a plague of empty theaters.

-----

Sony Pictures Classics "Truth," which recounts CBS' reporting on President George W. Bush's military service, expanded to 1,120 theaters, but couldn't even crack $1 million. It earned just $901,000.
