We already know the left has a problem with all those bitter folks who cling to their guns and religion code words for white Christians. We reported yesterday about the high school football coach who could very well lose his job for praying on the 50-yard-line before each game. But it appears the assault on Christianity in this nation isnt a whites only policy. A church in Oakland, California has been threatened with a nuisance fee of $3,500 and daily fines of $500 for what?
Singing.
Yes, while most people who love Gospel music call it the joyful noise, apparently folks in Oakland just hear it as noise. As KPIX 5 reports, the City of Oakland sent a letter to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in West Oakland with details of the supposed infraction and resulting fines and saying this activity (choir practice) may constitute a public nuisance due to its impact to the use and quiet enjoyment of the surrounding communitys property.
Church pastors met this week to discuss the issue and said the real problem is gentrification of the neighborhood. The church is located amidst a neighborhood full of old Victorians which are being purchased by affluent tech workers. The pastors said all churches are threatened by the citys action and they plan to fight it. Pastors are also thinking about organizing outdoor services throughout Oakland so everyone can enjoy the joyful noise that much more.
For its part, the church said it will continue with choir practice on Thursday. Do #ChristianBlackLivesMatter? Remember, the Obama administration didnt lift a finger to help Sudanese Christian Meriam Ibrahim escape her captivity and death sentence even though her two children were American citizens. Youd think she would have hit all the buttons: black, immigrant, refugee
but nope.

January 2017...tick-tock...
Is the Church in a properly zoned area?
Were they already there for a long time without complaints and were these only recent?
Is some resident upset they moved near a Church? Then why did they buy where they did?
This is like someone moving next to an airport knowing it was there and then saying the noise needs to go.
oh my...wait till the adhan horns start...
“Pastors are also thinking about organizing outdoor services throughout Oakland so everyone can enjoy the joyful noise that much more. “
This comment made me smile...
Yes most definitely an assault on Christianity flamed by the LBGT radicals and their supporters who are too stupid to realize the troubles they are unleashing upon the world.
“this activity (choir practice) may constitute a public nuisance due to its impact to the use and quiet enjoyment of the surrounding communitys property. “
Try claiming that when the bass from all the cars in the neighborhood driving by your house actually shake things off the walls or rattle items on shelves (this happens from roughly 100 feet away). The ordinance in my neck of the woods clearly states if you can hear it from 50 feet away or further it’s too loud.
There doesn’t seem to be any sense of urgency about certain people making noise that hinders quiet enjoyment of a given community.
Post of the day!
Oakland borders Berkeley and is maybe having its effect.
Would bet this Oakland Baptist Church has some seriously excellent music.
Would the same letter be sent if this was a mosque & the complaint was about the call to prayer?
Yes! They are shaking up God’s House with the Gospel!:)
Amen!!! 2nd best post of the day!!!
;)
Eff 'em ...
What sort of nitwit files a complaint about church singing? What’s next, complaining about church bells? (I know. Somewhere, someone has already complained about that too.)
I remember, way back when, living in the city. I would walk by a Baptist church on my way from the subway to my apartment. It was always a joy when I would walk by and hear choir practice.
Residential on either side across narrow driveways, otherwise surrounded by residential except for the church parking lot across the street.
The building does look fairly new, so I couldn’t tell if the neighbors came to the problem, or the problem came to the neighbors.
Same situation here. Some churches locate on hilltops or culdesacs because they like the view or quiet respectively. Then people buy property near them for the same reasons and complain about all the church traffic.
Sometimes, I think, just as an object lesson to all these complainers, the church should sell their property to a cat house.
Looks like they’ve got ‘Black Lives Matter’ on their side.

What about the call to prayer 5 times a day by Mosques? Is that going to be banned?
But Christian choir practice, not so much.
