Like many bullies, Donald Trump has a dishing-it-out-but-not-taking-it problem. He has systematically insulted the other Republican presidential candidates, often in the crudest, most foul-mouthed way. But he goes ballistic at the slightest criticism. When, for example, Rich Lowry, the highly respected editor of the National Review, observed that Carly Fiorina had emasculated him with the precision of a surgeon – a pretty unarguable conclusion, by the way – he called on the regulators to fine Lowry and ban him from television. Lowry, he added rather lamely, was “a bad guy”.
And yet, incredibly, Trump continues to lead the Republican field by a significant margin. This vain, petulant narcissist, who owes his fame to a reality TV show, is even shown in some polls beating the Democrats. Apparently, lots of voters simply want someone to articulate their anger. It’s almost enough to make me doubt my faith in open primaries.
Almost. We should remember that it’ll be some time before the first ballots are cast in Iowa and New Hampshire. Primaries test candidates in all manner of situations: local radio, rallies, TV debates, front rooms, barbecues for party branches. In consequence, few crackpots get through.
So far, the system has worked. Not in the sense that every winning candidate is an Abraham Lincoln; but in the sense that it is better at weeding out duds than any alternative method. Is it really going to fail now, when we have the strongest Republican primary line-up since at least 1980?
These are serious times, and America is a serious country. There are plenty of outsiders in the Republican field who understand that you can be anti-Establishment without sounding like an online comment thread. Come on, America, don’t do this to us. You deserve better. And we expect better.

Sorry to be redundant, but Trump is, without doubt, suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. His symptoms are classic. Everything is about him and he is unable to tolerate criticism of any kind.
He is also not a Conservative, not a Republican or not a Democrat - he is a Trump and he is using every tool necessary to appeal to the frustration and anger Conservatives are feeling. He is a manipulating, posturing blowhard and phony.

I am with you on that. I want Cruz. I can live with Trump even Carson. I could also live with a couple others but NO bush and NO Rubio if for no other reason than immigration.
Immigration is the PRIME issue of this election. If we do not turn the tie of the massive influx of immigrants, most the poorest and ill educated the World has to offer. We will lose this country for ever.

Mr. Hannan, you have been seen many times when televised on Sean Hannity’s FOX show I once thought you a very hand on guy. However, this little tale, shows you have very little knowledge of our political system. I realize you British are a tad educated regarding the American system of governing, but to be fully informed one must actual LIVE UNDER the government mess as WTP must attempt to do. Our system has become so corrupt and disingenuous, it is impossible for US to continue down this path. Your American idols are not exactly ours. We no longer trust the men you seem to hold in such high esteem. Sir, might it be suggested you bow out for the moment, take a deep breath and listen to WTP? You’ve been a friend for a number of years, and we would like this relationship to continue. Thank you for your concern. However this is OUR mess so please allow US to deal with it.
Like the UK or Europeans are in a position to be telling anybody about leadership at the moment.
He does have a point. Trump is hardly a committed conservative. And some people doubt his seriousness when it comes to policy.
If DH and his conservative clan would have focused on their own jobs then there would not have been a need for UKIP or Nigel Farage. He and his party massively failed to address radical Islam and immigration in the United Kingdom. So do your job and leave us Americans to do our choices..
