Donald Trump: My Rich Friends Shouldn’t Take Social Security
WSJ ^ | Heather Haddon

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said he and his rich pals should “voluntarily” forgo their Social Security benefits to bolster the health of the retiree entitlement system, declaring “I don’t need mine, by the way.”

At a multi-candidate presidential forum in New Hampshire on Monday, Mr. Trump said that for the good of the country, rich taxpayers should sacrifice the benefits from the entitlement system into which they had paid throughout their professional lives.

“I have friends that are worth hundreds of millions and billions of dollars and get Social Security. They don’t even know the check comes in,” said Mr. Trump at the nonpartisan No Labels forum.

The real-estate developer and reality television star, who says he is worth $10 billion, said he would forgo the $400,000 presidential salary if elected.

Earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie said retired senior citizens who earn more than $80,000 should should get reduced Social Security benefits, and said they should be eliminated entirely for individuals making more than $200,000.

I paid 12% of my income for 25 years. I know eventually the government is going to say I can’t have Soc. Sec. because I was stupid enough to save money and try and advance myself

More statist thievery and lies.

AT LEAST let me opt out entirely

You should be less worried about LEOs and more worried about waking up and finding out you have been delcared one of Trump’s rich friends. Not that Social Security is the corner stone of my retirement plans, but I expect to get means tested out of it, which will be tantamount to retroactively doubling my tax rate for the years I worked.

It’s fine if his rich friends do this VOLUNTARILY but to make it public policy would be more thievery.

But no SS increase pittance this year for millions of tax peons who had their incomes looted for decades.

Government needs that tax money to transport in tens of thousands of well dressed Syrian "refugee" terrorists, all while aiding and abetting tens of millions of illegal aliens.

I hope that The Donald understands specifically ^where^ that unused money goes.

You would think that The Donald would not to back-door fund Fedzilla.

The ideological purist in me winces.

But I know we’ve gone far enough down the road towards Socialism in this country that a right-leaning Populist is the best we can hope for this cycle. Go Trump!

That’s exactly what he really said voluntarity. He said they should but it was up to them to decide.

Hey Yokel, ya think something like that might change with Trump calling the shots? My bet is Trump would relish entering DC with giant chainsaw to cut bloated federal fat which is choking middle America to death.

Just look at who the man’s enemies are. It tells the entire story.

disability payment tax free from SS on top of it.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
That is where this should start.

If anyone wants to forego SS, so be it, but a law isn’t really a good idea.

Maybe cut the inheritance tax to coincide with the amount of SS one doesn’t draw.

‘They” have made SS D the ‘new’ unemployment check - people with ‘self inflicted’ maladies (drugs, alcohol, ‘stress’ from drawing unemployment for 15 years etc) should be eliminated also.

Judge Judy has an awful lot of HEALTHY looking ‘customers’ that are drawing SSD and other bennies AND act surprised when she tells them they are ‘on the dole’... Was a time, (right or wrong) there was some ‘shame’ for drawing welfare, now it is a way of life AND these AHoles try to tie Military Retirement and ‘legit’ SS payments as ‘welfare’ because it is a Govt issued check....

Time to heat up the oil, break out the feathers, sharpen the pitchforks and start with the biggest WELFARE crowd of all, the so called ‘Public Servants’ who keep raising OUR taxes to support their ever enriched life style’ etc etc

When a presidential campaign talks about encouraging his rich friends to give up SS benefits voluntarily, I think he is preparing the ground for involuntary means testing. At least Christie has been straightforward about his intentions.

My wife teaches school. They don’t pay SS, but are in the Illinois pension program.

We expect nothing from that, but it allows us to save her wages to a better retirement option until that gets seized.

I can’t believe there will be no increase in SSAN this year. The measly increase barely covered the accompanying increase in Medicare as it was. So, in effect, everyone on SSAN will get a DECREASE this year when Medicare gets increased. How they can justify no increase, when food costs have increased by about three times what used to be the normal...then add other skyrocketing increases, like electricity, rent, etc. I think avoiding a SSAN increase was factored in as a plus factor when TPTB finagled oil prices lower to bring down Russia’s economy. And, of course, Putin is one upping and outsmarting Obummer by helping Syria so he can get in on controlling the price of oil in the middle east...Saudis must be sweating blood.

Trump has brought about a realistic perspective. He don’t need it, Rush has said he don’t need it, and a very good friend of mine (who makes a HELL of a lot less than those two) said “I Don’t need it.” My friend was harassed by the government until he GOT it, by the IRS. His interest, alone is over $100,000 per year, single no, kids.

Sounds kind of socialistic to me. And what is a few multi-millionaires giving up a maximum of $32000 a year going to do for the SS system. Isn’t class demagoguery a Democrat tactic?

If they pay in they should get the same benefits as anyone else - otherwise just tax ‘em for being rich and save all the paperwork.....
